I’m leaving in a few days to some track days… So I have changed the oil ++… Then I looked at my oil leak… Its the pipe going from engine to Oil cooler… The pressed connector around the rubber pipe is not good… Its possible to rotate it by fingers… The leak is coming from left of oil drop at pic.(left of pressed connector)…
Is there any way to stop the oil leak temporary? Glue, silicone or some other stuff I can use…??
it looks like the oil leak is worst now after I rotated the connector by hand (maybe 1 drop in 5 min)…
I’m a bit worried about the leak since I’m going to spend around 2000km on the car…
There’s no way to avoid it I’m afraid, you’ll have to change the connectors.
The thing is that the rubber in those hoses gets hard with time and develops some play with the pressure fitting.
If you want to change them, the fittings that you need are:
Oil pipe: W=SAE 100R6 1/2", 2cm OD
Fittings: 1/2" BSP female for 1/2" push-fit, 45 and 120 bends
Don’t worry, just drive, the undertray might be a bit messy after the long drive but you’ll wash it later, then when you return you’ll change the fittings.
Take some spare oil to top up (but then being a K you would do that anyway)
Thanks for fast reply Uldis…
I’m always bringing oil . so Im probably going to leave it for now
If I understand stand you correct Uldis… All the parts that you listed is for the whole pipe (engine to oil cooler)…(not possible to change only one part) If it is, then I must remove the sills which I dont look forward to.
No, the oil hose data I just mentioned because I had it together with the fitting data.
You only need to buy the new fittings, cut the end of the hose and fit the new ones.
Having said that, when the old hoses begin to crack for no reason it’s time to change them.
I’ve had to cut the ends of the hoses 3 times because they’re cracking, completely cooked.
Have bought now some new hose but haven’t changed them yet, precisely because I’m dreading doing it, just like you.
Not really, I know what he’s experiencing, and its only a slight weep.
many Exigers have seen it, it just gets the bottom of the engine and undertray with a slight mist.
Now it it was dumping copiuous amounts on the exhaust it would be another thing, but it’s reasonably small and far (about 30cm)
The trouble with oil leaks is that they can get worse, fast. I have seen two cars recently , one Exige, one Elise catch fire due to oil on the exhaust from a leak at a sandwich plate connection. if it’s anywhere near the exhaust get it sorted.
Depending on the type of leak and the proximity.
Like it looks in the picture, several Exigers have been through that problem.
It’s not an issue, it will just get the right side of the engine and the undertray dirty.
Not a massive leak and is far from the exhaust.
