Oil Filter Housing Block

Just had my car serviced at the Sports & Performance Centre at the Lotus factory and asked them to take a look at a small oil leak that was depositing on the undertray and through the duct - the bad news was they found that the filter housing itself was cracked - quite an expensive part at 312 + VAT - but lucky in the sense that being the factory they have instant access to nearly every part.I know theres been some talk about dealers and who is best - but for my money you can’t beat taking it back to the factory - they also did some other minor jobs i wanted doing and have done an excellent job.Following the move from Kett Hall they seem to have settled down and are really into customer service in the way that really counts…listening to the customer and giving them what they want - try them yourself. I’ll be taking mine back for some new painted calipers and possibly the new motorsport seats, detachable steering wheel and uniball rear links in the very near future.

WHAT !!! 312 for the oil filter housing , **** i would gone for the standard one at 30 and then added a sandwich plate for 25…no hang on, actually i would have mixed up some JB Weld and resealed it [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]

Just a thought - what do you reckon the part costs from your local MG Dealer??

its not a standard rover part - its not the same part as the elise - I think its because of the oil cooler input/output connections.Having gone through 3 sandwich plates from Mocal on a Perkins diesel conversion I know these can be a bit of a problem as well.Anyway the main point of the post was to say how well the guys at Lotus did in turning my car around in less than 24 hours - do you think a main dealer/independant dealer could do that?Who said I paid for the part anyway!

Seriously, they have there **** together now and have always turned my car around in the prescribed time dispite always having to fir extra parts. Also if you have never driven some of the Norfolk roads you should get yourself down there - one section of the Sheringham coast road has a section resembling Eau Rouge - honest!!!

I have to agree with Steve that the boys at Hethel are good, they do listen to what you have to say.I have my car looked after by them, and have had excelent service, also cheaper than Stratton Motor Company (local dealer). There are some roads around Norfolk that are pretty good, you have to be aware that a tractor could pull out from a field at any time, and you hardly see any old bill about! SteveHow much was your car leaking? I’ve got a leak that I can’t seem to find and maybe this is my issue as well. It is coming from somewhere near the oil filter housing and it makes a spot on the undertray - not too big though. Thanks

leak was really very small…it left a gunky patch about 4 to 5 inches in diameter on the undertray and was only noticable once the undertray was taken off. A second clue was that there was an oil drip clearly visible off the bottom end of the oil cooler pipes.
