Oil and oil filter change

Thanks chaps !

Sorry Johhny dude, but this makes NO sense !!!

The oil filer holds about 1/3 to 1/2 liter of very DIRTY oil… that will instantly contaminate all that lovely new 50 Mobil One stuff!!! And the pores will be partially blocked with combustion bi-producte that will decrease the flow rate of the oil system.

For the sake of a new filter, 5.00 ish, if you change the oil, change the filter everytime too mate!

Unless of course they are made out of Carbon Fibre!!!

Paul - get yourself booked in for Oulton in July ! (+ curry afterwards!)
Hmm, very tempting.

I’ll make a note of it and book it when my car is back in one piece

Holy shoot…sorry yep mis-read oil filter same time as oil change, air filter cleaned once a year. No reflection on JSR, done locally

Just wondering if anyone had sent their old oil/filter to a lab for particle tests?

I personally think that changing oil after 3 trackdays (300 miles) is possibly overkill ?
OK if it makes you happy to change it, but i’d suggest that trackdays are kinder to oils than normal driving “stop/start” Etc…
Would you change the oil after 3 trips to Tesco? No? Well possibly it would be more beneficial !!

Just my 2P worth …

John

Oil temp is up in the region of 120c on a trackday, okay not at its limit, but nonetheless it’s pretty working hard. I don’t think your analogy really stacks up in “oil terms”. The trips to Tesco/stop/starts don’t work the oil in the same way, but I agree, aren’t ideal!

Personally, I change the oil filter after the suggested 3 trackdays - may be overkill, but for the sake of 60…

Not that it matters, but I reckon most folk will do more than 300 miles over 3 trackdays.

Just my 2p worth

I average about 170miles per trackday on track, plus generally at least 200miles each way so nearly 600miles total for me per day, so best part of 2000miles for each change with 600 on track. I think that is reasonable

My oil stinks after 3 TD’s and looks all the worse for it.

Corrected!

Corrected!
Lol thanks

Time to get a Tom Tom so you dont get so lost mate!

Good idea but I doubt it would help on the Bedford GT track it is just forever hairpins :frowning: real dull

I love the Bedford GT track, I think its mint!!!

Thats only because its shaped like this…

You only have to turn in one direction.

Bugger off loud boy, that wouldn’t let you on the site, with your loud old shed!

…but you like long straight bits of road where you can really get the hammer down innit

I found this if anyone is interested (might help someone else) -

Just for the record I do need the shorter thinner one. The standard Type-R one wont really fit with the frame.

Thanks.
