Ohlins or Nitrons

As per title Ohlins or Nitrons

Difficult discussion as there is a lot of opinion. I have driven cars on road and track with both and if budget isnā€™t an issue then Ohlins all day every day, they are just a better built, better engineered damper (in my opinion).

JSR have also commissioned a one way Ohlins 46mm damper that is Class A LOT legal, and is an awesome damper based on my two way valveing and setup.

Worth also considering ā€œlead timeā€ for servicing. Nitron did mine recently in 1 week, but Iā€™ve no idea on Ohlins.

'bout the same for Ohlins. Mine done recently at Mick Gardner took a little longer but only because they needed some new parts (they were a bit shagged!).

Donā€™t forget there are also Quantum dampers available. Iā€™ve been running some 2-ways this year and they are a very, very nice damper.

As Sean says itā€™s all about cost, the cheaper Ohlins are not quite as good as the even cheaper Nitrons, however spend a bit more and the Ohlins are then much better than the equivelent Nitron, all IMHO

Iā€™ve been thinking about swapping my 1-way nitrons for 2-way Ohlins.

ā€¦the Ohlins in the classifieds are very tempting!

Any particular reason? What is wrong with the Nitrons?

Ride quality namely. Looked into having them revalved, but I do know the Ohlins ride a whole lot better.

The only thing that puts me off Ohlins is was I was always led to believe that the exige/vxr220 standard fitment ones were very poor quality and prone to breaking.

Dont forget Dynamic Suspension, I had 2 ways and they are good quality, original preferred Motorsport Lotus dampers.

Why not do the same as Boothy - spend a day at Nitron, & get them set up to your personal preference? What suits one person, may well not suit another - even more so on track. Trouble with 2 way adjustables is that there can be too many variables affecting the ride quality/handling etc eg state of tyres/suspension geo/ride height/arb adjustment.

MarkA is our resident expert in this field - he is a suspension engineer for Nissan, & prior to that for Rover. Additionally, heā€™s probably done more laps of the 'Ring over many years, than anyone else on here, in his professional capacity.

All S2 owners have ā€œlapped a few 'ringsā€ in their time yā€™know Rob

My Nitrons ride the road great now, they are constantly being updated and re engineered.

Thanks for the input guys next week we should be the proud owners of some Ohlins courtesy of Junks
