For those that have these fitted can they be made (via either the bump or rebound) compliant enough for road usage as well as occasional track use?
Depends on what your expectation of ‘compliant’ is. I have run the GT spec 46 dampers with similar spring rates and didn’t need to go full soft. But I doubt that a normal passenger would find it comfortable.
Can’t comment on Ohlins stuff, but I found 500lb springs too stiff on the rear no matter how much I adjusted the damping. Settled on 450 lb rear/375 lb front; think that’s about 50-60% stiffer than OE?
36 spring rates need to be softer than that on an S1 if using 2 way adjustable Ohlins as an all rounder surely.
Cheers for the replies chaps.
I see you (jonnyfox) have a set of these, what spring rates do you use for road?
If I was able to get hold of 350/450 springs and fit them to the ohlins would revalving be required (assuming valved for 450/600) or is there enough adjustment in the bump and rebound to allow me to use on the softer springs, swapping out to the stiffer springs when taking to track?
Springs shouldn’t set you back too much.
Maybe worth a call to Mick Gardener, after being introduced to him by Gav, I’ve always found them very helpful. Actually PM Gav on here, Tarmac Terrorist (Kevlar Kid Seloc). I had what he had on his 160, 350/450. Drove beautifully. Both will help out with valving info.
The Lotus Sport Ohlins for S2 were 325/425, and that’s a heavier car, so if looking for something for the road in and around that level seems appropriate.
^ yep 325/425 not what I posted.
I have run Ohlins on my S1 since 2006 with no problem of them being harsh or over-hard. Offhand I can’t recall the spring rates, but as I recall they are the S2 set, which Lotus supplied to me direct.
Cheers for all your help guys.
Also decided the spring rates would be to high for a predominantly road car.
I tried contacting Mick Gardener and Gav but no answer, the set is know sold so ho hum.
Sorry, been head down working away this last few weeks.
I run 80nm front and 105nm rear. This is the cup260/211 road setup. I like it like this, soft enough to absorb the big knocks but still has that tight feeling when you start pushing on.
