oh dear.. Exige S stage 2 suffers same fate as N/A

yes that’s right the stage 2 on the Exige S has the same ‘failed bracket weld’ fault as the N/A version… which I suffered 3 times… fortunately all covered by warranty, but still a pain in the arse. Characterised by a metallic ‘tizzing’ at 4k rpm…

Just had mine go on a N/A Exige at 14,000 miles but out of warrenty.

how many miles had yours done because I have had the metallic ‘tizzing’ for ages and had never worked out what it was.

on my N/A they (3 of them) lasted about 6k miles. The fault there was a bracket failing. I just took a call from B+C and the S version had failed (after 2k miles) but due to a different fault - something internal had failed. Replaced under warranty.

Stage 1 failed on my exige gt within one week of new.

Mine hasnt developed the rattle mentioned above, but Im well p*ssed off with the way the inside of the tail pipe has rusted!!! its looks terrible. Only done about 2k miles in it so far. I dread to think what it’ll be like when the roads are salted in a few months time!

Just realised that my last Stage 2 only did a couple of thousand miles and has been making the vibration sound for a good while. But is out of warranty due to its age. I thought that I had cover a lot more miles that it had done.

The new one has just had the same thing happen in less than a hundred or so miles.

It is currently back at the dealers who have confirmed that the brackets gone already.

Not sure what to do because the Stage 1 has the same brakets as the Stage 2.

No point putting another Stage 2 on or a Stage 1 if they are going to go every 5 mins.

Anyone know what other options there are for a S2 Exige with a Motorsport ECU upgrade?

2ublar is the only way imo.

Jim will build you what ever you like noise wise and looks wise.

Quality is very very high.

ah joy! the replacement on my S has also failed! less than 200 miles life… atrocious!

I don’t understand it, it’s not like the S2 Exige is a new model.

Why can’t Lotus even get this right, especially for what they are charging for a premium product.

No wonder so many people go straight to third party products these days. I don’t mind paying Lotus prices if the product is a quality item. but I can’t understand why when their sports exhaust has been out for so long they still have not got it right.

As I said in an earlier posting “No point putting another Stage 2 on or a Stage 1 if they are going to go every 5 mins”.

Are there any other options or is it just the ‘2ublar’ exhaust?

Has anyone got their website address.

My car is still sitting at the dealer waiting to see what can be done.

I suspect that my new sports exhaust may have failed as well because it is making that horrible “tizzing” sound at anywhere above about 2500rpm. I bought my exhaust from B&C so claiming under warranty is not so easy (cost GBP170 to ship here in the first place so returning it is not really an option!).

In the absence of a local dealer and given that I’m fairly handy with a spanner, I intend to attack the problem myself but have just one question. Does anyone know if the rubber mounts through which the brackets pass should not be fully tightened so that there is a certain amount of rotational movement for the long exhaust brackets themselves. The logic is that this would allow for some movement in the whole system as the engine flexes when power/torque come on rather than snap the brackets.

Any help from someone who may have attacked this problem before would be much appreciated.

cheers
coatsie

mine appears to have fixed itself, and stopped tizzing, which is weird

ring B&C and they will tell you what welds need strengthening (the tizz is caused by a particular weld on the mounting bracket failing)

i have a stage one fitted (05 n/a model), i have had no problem until recently…sometimes when i set of from cold (1st gear only) it makes a slight blowing noise the only thing i can think of is that it may need tightening up on the manifold side?

I just got my stage 2 welded up with extra strengthening, it is still under warranty but my dealer is a dick.

If it goes again I will get a new heavy duty bracket made up.

I do love the sound.

b&c confirmed bracket is still solid but the baffles themselves inside the exhaust have failed! replacing under warranty (again!)
