'Official' Sports Exhaust for the Exige S

Bob, I agree in high theory however. Comparing a catback exhaust change (which is what most owners do) especially in this thread vs. a full exhaust manifold + catalytic converter + catback change nets a different results altogether.

I’m well inline and aware of technical evolutions and backpressure from exhaust emissions engines. However, the logic differences of “may” vs. will is a number crunching exercise and probability ratio here. The adopted mentality here is very bias around only buying OEM Lotus sanction upgrades, when their products itself isn’t even up for scritinizing.

I don’t comprehend how a product from Larini, Arqray, 2bular or QuickSilver is a lesser on par, lesser engineered product compared to what Janspeed is doing for Lotus and with plenty of errors on display which none of the above manufacturers have a significantly lower rate of failure just from the product itself.

Replace the exhaust system with a 5mm steel pipe and witness the effect. Then try removing the entire system completey. Okay, dramatic example, but proves the point nicely. Also, before throwing about accusations of ignorance, go experience some warranty claims first hand - then you’ll see exactly where the “BS” comes from.

You obviously took the remarks very personal and is a gracious supporter of what Lotus can do and engineer. Kudos to you and definitely more power to you if you feel that no other tuner can produce or exceed Lotus standards.

However, making a stark comparison of a stupid pipe dimension vs. what if not all aftermarket catback exhaust systems for the Elise/Exige/ExigeS with either one of the following; bigger pipe diameter, reduced resonator size in aid of improving flow is as pointless as continually living on a fear of probability.

If you want to take it offline on a personal beef, I’m more than willing to respond to your PM. Otherwise, you may be on the disapproving opinion bandwagon. But there is certainly no need for such a response with no value added.

Fair comment.

I cant be arsed to change the silencer though. I reckon the manifold is the biggest hinderance by far. The only kit I’ve seen which I’d buy is the full 4-2-1 long manifold, 200CPSI cat and tailbox from Piper. I reckon that, combined with a cam changeover re-flash would improve the midrange (where I end up driving most of the time) significantly.

I had a ride in a 111R with such a set up and it was sweet as … Although that exhaust was a now discontinued Janspeed (they kept having manifold failures )

Noel - you’ve completely missed the point.

hopefully no-one is going to get murdered over this thread…

for me, i just want to know (rough percentage) how likely the stage2 111r exhaust will feck my exige s engine - should i revert back to standard till offical stage2 is out? and when is it expected now??

the dealer has contacted lotus who say back pressure isnt right for the car but wont do any damage - what is concensus of opinions on here?

the back pressure line is a theoretical risk, but you bet your life they would use it as reason not to accept warranty claim. I’d just get it in writing that it is not voiding your warranty (from Lotus or dealer) then all bases covered. I ran a stage2 on my S for about 1200 miles before the weld blew - but that was after the dealer fitted it - so any liability would not have been with me.

If Lotus are saying the Stg2 design is unsuitable for the S models, it doesn’t have to be because of back-pressure/flow issues.
It’s common knowledge the Stg2 drones/resonates causing the brackets to break. This could be due to the packing material burning off and with the increased power/heat/flow of the Supercharged install, you very quickly have an empty resonating can for a silencer - with warranty claims right behind!
Just my opinion mind.
