Odd sensation when powering out of corners

Been meaning to post about this for a while!

I have an S with Gotham.

On track when powering out of corners I get a bit of a strange thing from the rear wheels. It’s like the power is too much for the rear and there is a sort of vibration. It’s a bit like if the tyres are a bit low and are rolling over. Either that or TC cutting in but I normally turn it off.

Pressures were 24 on the back and did try a psi or 2 more to no avail.

Any ideas?

Not the best description I guess!

Get a S1!

They dont do that!

(Even with Honda power)

So you think it’s power related?

Maybe I need an LSD now!

You took the words from my mouth !!

With an open diff mine used to shudder and grab as traction was lost and regained…
All silky smooth now though as I break traction there are no jolts anymore…

On my n/a when coming out of tighter corners the rear wheels can skip and bounce the revs if I haven’t got a passenger in the car. Maybe yours feels more like a vibration as you’ve got the power to spin the wheel at this point?

Why not try just waiting till you put the power down (full throttle) or just use a gradual power increase, never had mine do it and I have more hp than you, maybe it is just your driving style? try some instruction?

Yep I can feather the throttle to get around Ade, but I should be able to get the power down really. Im being robbbed of some pace.

JFK - interesting that you have had this and solved with a diff.

Thats because he does ‘5 star’ donuts! :>)

That is just wheel hop. You can somewhat reduce it by fitting stiffer engine mounts. An LSD is a good idea to help put the power down earlier.

Talking about engine mounts (thread drift) i have added a set of the additional inserts like the motorsport ones, but I got them from ebay for 50 delivered. According to Sincs easy to fit, and they are really good as the vibration increase is not too bad but the extra stability is well worth it.

It really has transformed the car for the better… not cheap though… 2000

Interestingly the latter more powerful Exiges from Lotus all have a diff fitted as standard …That must tell us all something !!
Bout time Lotus admitted that they got it wrong…he he he

And as for putting traction control on a car such as the Exige … that’s a joke surely ? … But that’s another topic and I won’t go on

Hi Ade, as you suspected the inserts I’d got a while ago wouldn’t fit. I’ve had another look at the ebay ones. They differ from the Lotus Sport offering in that they just fill the holes in the existing mounts, where the Lotus ones completely replace the rubber insert. I’ve ordered up the lotus set. Some more money, but believe they will last longer.

Well I suppose only time will tell, if mine fail I will either get a set that sincs are having made or get the Lotus ones, mine were certainlt a cheap easy way to solve the issue

What spring rates/dampers are you running matey ?

Just standard setup for me!

Want some Ohlins though.

In that case I think I’d be looking at those first as the cause of the problem rather than spending on a diff.

Spring rate is probably too low which is giving you too much body roll and therefore lifting the inside wheel too easily.

Is it happening on tight 2nd gear corners only ?

That’s exactly what I get with the standard set-up on tight 2nd gear corners. Leads to excessive tyre wear on the unweighted rear too. One-way Nitrons or Ohlins is top of my list when SWMBO isn’t looking

Hi Dave, i’m not sure tbh as I haven’t been on track for a while. From memory it is in the lower gears.

Still looking for some suspension!

Yeah get a diff man, you will be able to floor it on the way into corners, never mind on the way out!!!

The stiffer lower engine mount is a good option as well.
