Nurburgring

Hi everyone,

First of all I’m a forum Noob so be nice!!

Im going to the 'Ring in september. Just have a few questions if anyone could help?

I have a stage 2 track use only exhaust, official Lotus part, and was wondering whether this would pass the dB limit? I think the limit is 96? Does anyone else have this exhaust and have you been to the track without problems?

Any other advice regarding track days in general, but regarding the ring especially would be much appreciated!

Oh yeah i’ve got an Exige series 2 N/A by the way!

Thanks in advance!

Ash

Do you realise that your “road insurance” won’t cover you for driving the 'Ring? Also, if you cause an incident (ie stoppage) &/or damage the Armco, you’ll get a bill?

Sorry to be negative, but better to know before you go

What date are you going??? Im out there in September as well (8th-11th)

I heard it was 1000 Euros per piece of armco damaged … but if you’re doing the Scuderia Hanseat activity its half price !! So it’s buy one get one free on armco.

You’re probably over the limit there, but it’s very rare they’ll test you. My friend’s S2 with a 2bular had no issues, i’ve been over with various noisy cars in the last few years and the only time i’ve seen anyone checked was after they decided to sit reving their engine at the barrier.

As others have said, be careful with your insurance, some policies do cover you, but it’s the expection these days. Phone up and check, at least you’ll know before you go. Effectively you could end up driving on a public road with no insurance, and the normal problems that can cause. There are checks on documents (although your european cover certificate probably will not have details of exclusions) and if you should be caught up in an incident you may be proscuted for not having insurance.

Incidents are expensive, you’ll be ruthlessly billed for damage, including armco (300 euro a section, it’s normamly three high too, grass seed, recovery, track closure, etc.)

But don’t let this put you off, just be sensible and have a good time, it’s a brilliant track without equal. Pick your time to get out, watch out for the fast locals and the slow bikes. Please be very careful it in the wet though, there are many surfaces of various ages, and grip levels can change suddenly.

Personally, I wouldn’t drive the 'Ring, unless it was a proper “closed” track day run by the likes of RMA. Just too many idiots causing chaos, from what I’ve heard & seen on the “pay & go” runs.

Just a quick note on db level. I’ve got a S2 N/A Exige with a stage one Lotus supplied exhaust, it was noise tested at Cadwell Park last Sunday @ 98 db at 3/4 throttle 6500rpm. So I guess your car will be a bit noiser.

Graham.

I don’t believe that…

I love that clip, PMSL everytime I see it

Everything you could ever want to know is on Ben Lovejoy’s site http://www.nurburgring.org/

Just be careful! When I was there a Mk2 Golf on British plates collected the armco in a big way and ended up with only one wheel in correct alignment. Think of the logistics!

me and another lad are over there from the 1st to the 2nd of sept so would be good to see some other local lads. thanks for the info btw its all helpin. any ideas on what preps i should carry out on my car before i go? thanks

I just got back from watching the classic racing - heres my post from NYLOC and a piccy of me on track in mi’ owd nail

Hi Chaps - went over to the ring last week to watch the Classic racing on the GP circuit.

2 x Healey 3000’s

2 x Elans

1 x Z3

Superb weekend with a great set of chaps.

Camped for 2 nights at camp site at the side of the track. Sunday night in Adenau.

Decided we would try a lap of the Nordschleife (Green Hell)

It was UTTER CARNAGE! I have never seen so much stupidity and damage since the last time I saw banger racing with caravans on a stock car track.

I was waving cars and bikes past only to come round the corner and see then in a cloud of dust or worse still ploughed into the armco.

If you do go be careful - it’s bonkers!

But it is ace and every petrolheads mecca. it’s worth going just to look at the cars in the car park and spectate at the side of the track.

first damage was a 996 with all the front malletted in - this was about 1/2 mile in!

got got worse thereafter to such an extent that they had closed it by the time we had done a lap.
