Not got one? Get one... TPMS

Excellent toy and VERY useful

What is it? a tyre pressure monitoring system or something?

is it a much smaller and lighter version of jonny’s wide screen reversing monitor/imax??

WTH do you need one of those for ??
The Exige is only about 12 ft long !!!

TPMS - Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. Real time tyre pressures and temperatures.

Excellent toy and very useful on track.

Agreed it’s handy but personally speaking the last thing I need on track is something else to look at, especially mounted down there

I’ve just got one of these but not had a chance to use it on track yet. I recon that its a great idea. Its not something you are looking at all the time, just perhaps one or twice on the first few laps till the tyres are hot then assuming they stabilise that would be it. Saves the guess work on coming back into the pits and getting the gauge out.

Yep saw this in AutoCar mag, think it’s really good.

What are the parts Tony, new valves and the screen?

I bought one of these a couple of years ago but have only just got around to fitting the sensors (I was waiting for when I had to fit new tyres  )

Very impressed with it, it was great on track yesterday just to keep an eye on the actual temps that the tyres reach rather than second guessing the temps when you come back into the pits.

  • Just try and make sure your tyre fitter puts the right sensor in the on the right wheel ! - I speak from experience

Thats about it. The valve and sensor get fitted with the tyres and the screen mounts somewhere where you can get power to. I made up a bracket and bolted the screen to it as the velcro supplied is useless. Powered from a switched supply in the dash.

As Dave says, most important bit is making sure the tyre fitters fir the right sensor in the right wheel as reprogramming the unit is a PITA.

It’s ideal for monitoring pressures on warm up laps. I get a bit anal about it and actually record pressures, temps and wear rates throughout the day with notes about the cars handling etc

Sounds a bit OTT but it does help me on track and keeps my mind on my driving rather than the burger van.

I’ve been using the same model for about 2-3 years on my Exige. (I’ve mounted it where the radio used to be, sunk into a sheet of twintex)

Its really a good bit of kit, Only annoying thing is that 20deg c is the lowest setting for the low pressure alarm. So when leaving the pits and the first lap or two its beeping in alarm mode.

Mine has stopped working in the last couple of weeks. It can’t find the wheels anymore (it at first lost one and now all four. I think the batteries might have gone in the sender units. A bit annoying as they are suppossed to last 7 years. Might need to speak to the company that makes them.

Yeah - I was looking to get one of these when they were the latest gadget on SELCOCK but quite a few have reported failures after a bit of time so I resisted the temptation … would be good to know the reason for failures Chris …

Had one for 6months-excellent

Can they predict HGF?
