Non switched cigarette/accessory socket. :(

I have a Bluetooth GPS unit that I’d like to keep permanently in the car.

I was going to just plug it into the socket between the seats, but as it is always on I’m concerned about draining the battery

Can anyone suggest where I can find suitable switched feed to power it?

TIA

just to check the obvious first - is it permanently live? Some S1 Elises are and some aren’t. Worth checking first.

An option would be the stereo wiring loom - there’s a switched and a permanent live from the ignition. I used the switched one for the supply for my oil temp / pressure gauges

I hard-wired my GPS charger straight into the ignition. I connected it just behind the ignition switch. As a bonus, it automatically switches the unit on and off when I start/stop the engine.

Spot on. Exactly what I’m planning!!

I bought a new GPS unit with a hardware on / off switch, as my old TomTom one would need me to press a button everytime the battery died. Not much use as I’m going to hide the unit in the dash somewhere!

New radio is going in on Saturday so might also look at Dobbo’s suggestion.

Only thing left now is to work out how to convert the rear view mirror into a phone cradle (might as well use it for something as at the moment it’s as much use as a chocolate fireguard )

I installed one in the boot like this in my Elise. It allows you to leave it permanently plugged in and out of site.
