Noise Cancelling headphones

Hello,

Just got back off me hols, and there were lots of different noise cancelling headphones for sale to remove plane engine noise etc while still allowing you to hear music. I was wondering if anyone had tried them, and if they are good enough to help with a S1 with a decat and a Janspeed

Ta. Andy.

I have never used them but there was a thread on seloc a few weeks ago about how they didnt work.

Use them everyday at work, they are very good once you get use to wearing them.

Mine just cancel out the high noises allowing you to still hear people speak, fork truck coming etc.etc.

Loads of different ones available, mine are just the basic noise supressor built into Peltor ear defenders.

I regularly drive out of the gate with them still on at the end of the day not realising until I get home!!

i tried them and they didn’t work for me a my ears get uncomfortably hot!
Need frash air around my head so resorted to using foam earplugs and cranking up the volume!

I have a pair of the Bose ones which are great they cut out a lot of the noise but you can still hear your engine and other cars etc just a lot less wearing

Well I doubt you’ll feel you get good value from the ones at the airport. They’ve much better when music is played through them. Try a 5 pair from B&Q, I was surprised, takes away a lot of the wearing noise.

I have used a set of Bose ones in a fast noisy hairy plane and they are fantastic - I was told these were ~ 1k/set though

They can never work (well) with varying noise (eg driving). They do work well with flying as, once at criusing speed, the engine revs are constant.

In a car, you’re always changing speed slightly, even on a motorway cruise. This is where these things struggle.

Ear plugs are far better (and far cheaper).

i have a pair of these–http://www.nusystems.co.uk/product/Sennheiser.PXC.250

have been great on flights.

I have apair of Bose ones. Great for Aeroplanes but have not used then in the car. I imagine they would get a bit hot in the summer. There are some cheaper ones available but for cancelling out a consistent background noise Bose are the best !

good point!

Yep, I tried some in my car a couple of years ago. They were as good as useless.

The only thing the Bose ones would not cancel was the whine of the SC - quite glad really

To quote the great Jimmy Tarbuck

“We seem to have a difference of opinion there Geoffrey”

I’ve got some coming on trial, so I’ll let you know.

I use the Bose Quiet 2’s whenever I have a long run in the Exige - I find them very good. I notice some people have mentioned they don’t cancel out much of the high engine noise BUT these particular headphones have two settings, one for deep noise cancelling and one for high noise cancelling - not sure which I have mine on BUT it certainly works - spending 5 hours + in the car for a Euro trip would be impossible without them, esp as mine has no cat or silencer… Maybe I need a new exhaust

What do they look like - are we talking about the big normal sized ear defenders or are they more discrete?

They are proper headphones so quite large
