No throttle response??

Was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on a strange problem I had today. When moving through slow moving traffic at around 25mph with minimal gas the throttle suddenly became no-responsive. The engine was still running but eventually stalled.

The same thing happened again a little later again in slow traffic but this time on changing gear all was well.

Never had the problem before, your thoughts would be appeciated…

Hi and Welcome

The tech massive will need a little more details - model, year etc

I’m sure someone will be able to help

S2 Exige 2006
260 Cup

Bad fuel maybe…Something like like that. Use it quickly and re fuel with the good stuff.

Welcome

Never heard of that before, we also need pictures of your 2006 260cup

It sounds a bit like your car is going into “safe” mode, which gives the sympton you describe, and has reset to normal when you started after stalling.

But there would be a MIL light on if this was the case.

Good luck.

Cisco

Yes, I had the same option that it was some ECU issue but unfortuantly as I had entered “Panic” mode :astonished:& the I couldn’t really see what was lit on the Stack before restarting the engine.

I’ll keep a close watch on the MIL but I’m assuming it keeps some form of log?

I’ll drop it round my local dealership hopefully they might be able to pull some data out.

Thanks All for your input…

Garf…

Garf do what I said before dropping it into your dealer, it maybe fuel it may not. I had something VERY similar…Ade, John Shorrocks was sat in the passenger seat.

Edit to say, your dealer could be looking for a problem for quite sometime, something that isn’t actually there. So for the sake a of running down two tanks of fuel it’s worth dicounting the obvious.

Jonnyfox

Thanks, I will empty the tank first & monitor the issue. Hopefully your right, I’ll have the tank empty by the weekend especially if I do the Combe Trackday on Thursday…

Just an update on my car woes.

Got to Castle Combe, second in the queue, ready for a great day in sun & ready to give it some beans… car won’t start :frowning:

To cut a long story short the problem seems to be with the Multi Function Relay Unit Part Number: A111M6024F. I could tell that the fuel pump wasn’t priming on ignition, check all the fuses etc… then spoke to Paul Anderson @ Christopher Neil. Straight away he said MFR, apparently the contacts corrode.

Anyway got a big screwdriver out & tapped the unit a few times. It’s completely inaccessible from above but you can just get to it with a long screwdriver, but that did the trick, it started up first time.

Thanks to everone who tried to help @ Combe & a big thanks to Paul for pointing me in the right direction.

Didn’t get on track but got home under my own steam

Bad news, good news

Does anyone know if changing the MFR is something I could try, I’m assuming the relay is more accessible below?

It’s next to the ECU, below & right.

Will probably give it CN’s, good excuse to have somemore work done. Want to have the powerflex engine mounts fitted anyway

Is that your best option? Have you discounted OEM, nylatron, rose joints, etc?

I’m open to suggestions, the Powerflex mounts have some good reviews on the forums…

I had powerflex fitted last week and only downside is a bit of vibration at tickover.

Ive got powerflex on mine and couldnt believe the difference which ever ones you get will be a great improvement, and you soon get used to the slight vibration.

Mark

regarding the difference when fitted - it’s obviously difficult to remember what the OEMs were like when new as opposed to comparing fubared OEM vs new anything else.

Just need to add I know nothing bad about the powerflex, just interested in knowing what was the deciding factor(s) to push anyone in aparticular direction.

Personally, I would opt for the rose joints if I knew i could live with them on the road - i.e., after a test drive in a car with them fitted.
