No longer non-standard

My S1 has undergone a transformation. It’s no longer a standard car.
After four years of ownership, I’ve finally made a change.
Brakes? No. Suspension? No. Engine, definitely not . . .

I’ve ditched the length of wood I used as the engine cover support.
In its place are two fine hydraulic struts as supplied
(about two years ago) by FlyingDutchman.
Thanks to Mark_A’s clear instructions (from Oct 2004)my son installed them in about an hour.
I should be delighted but somehow I feel the character of the car has changed, too, and not for the better. Ah well, I’ll have to stop all this meddling.

You’ve still got the original lotus block of wood? :astonished: That’s going to be worth a fortune in years to come!

Now you have added some weight, you need to consider other options to offset it :astonished:

Sadly, not an original bit of timber. But no doubt SimonE will be along to put a bid in . .

Tim, I’m on a diet ahead of me hols. That should do the trick.

I’ve got a stay on mine… I think it’s non-standard but I must admit I’ve flirted with re-making the rod in carbonfibre

I have a length of white plastic pipe, removed whenever the engine cover is closed to return to standard.
