Nitron NTR Sport Dampers

Is anyone running them?

What are the opinions on these as an upgrade for my S2 Exige compared to 2-way ajustables or the 2 different hlins setups offered by Plans? I’m not one for meddling with settings - just looking for a generally better setup than standard on track.

Whichever option, I’ll be investing in a stiffer ARB

There is quite a bit of info on this if you have a dig about or do a search. Unfortunatly I don’t think any one person has tried Nitrons and Ohlins on there car to give an accurate back to back comparison.

The thing with shocks is that is you mes about enough with spring and damper rates I am sure you could get either brand to feel similiar, so really I guess it comes down to the build quality of each damper.

My opinion is that you don’t get much better than Ohlins. I went for the big 46mm jobbies and I have been really pleased with them. But like I mentioned earlier, I haven’t had Nitrons on my car, so I can’t comment.

If you call Graham at Plans (they will supply and fit either brand) he will say Ohlins every time if cost isn’t an issue.

Sean…

I just got the Nitron 2 way adjustables (are they race? track?) and sfter the first outing realized just how much I would need to start playing with them.
If you venture into 2 ways it’s because you want to learn.
If not, just go for something simple like the Nitrons one ways.
I was running 425#F, 500#R and hated them. But then I didn’t finish playing with the settings.
I reckon it’s going to take me a few trackdays to have them figured oyut.
As it was I was slower through the corners with them than with the original shagged LSS before.

What sort of spring rates are you running in yours Sean?

I could tell ya mate, but then I’d have to kill ya!!

Nah, its no secret at the moment I have 600lb fronts and 750lb rears

Sean…

Cheers, I will give Graham a call

Is that also what you had before at Croft? Or just changed now in your super duper rebuild?

2 ways are track, aren’t they?

Uldis - are they really that hard to set up - did you fit them yourself?

No I had much softer springs at Croft. I have just had a look round to see what they were, but I can’t find that info anywhere. Give Plans a call, they will tell you.

Thanks Sean. Not that important, I’m being guided now by Guy, just wanted to compare.

I would have liked to fit them myself, but the lack of garage and the fact that I wanted a full geo check anyway (and corner weighing) menat that I paid somebody to do it.
Unfortunately I’ll have to pay him again as canging the springs and adding the helpers at the rear menas new corner weighing. And I can’t do that in the snow

And hard to setup… if you’re like others just following recommendations on how hard to set the single adjustables, these are not for you.

OTOH if you like independent adjustments because you think you can extract more from the shocks than the singles adjustables can and learn about how the suspension works, then these are the ticket

But rest assured, they’re not to set and forget. They’re to continuously fiddle with

as changing the springs and adding the helpers at the rear menas new corner weighing.

Are you going for heavier springs all around?

Out of interest how did you decide on the original spring rates? My interest is that quite a few people seem to change spring rates before settling on a set.

Yes, standards are supposd to be around 230# Front, 285# Rear.
The ones I went for was 425# Front, 500# Rear, following recommendations from Guy at Nitron.

I think they’re pretty hard, and about the maximum I would want for the road.

Let’s see, I don’t dismiss the possibility of changing them, but I think they should be ok.

I know, move this, change that, but that’s what it takes to learn…
