Has anyone else had the same fate?? Driving along, horrible grating noise on nf. Get out,top 5mm of disc severly scored and no pad left. Only on front left. Right side has plenty of pad left and disc perfect. Into Lotus and appears pad has dislodged somehow and prematurely worn. No stone stuck or seized caliper. Need two new discs and pads, with labour ~500 quid !!
Has anyone else had same happen and how can I stop it from happening again? Any advice welcome as don’t wanna fork out 500 notes again in a hurry for something that I think shouldn’t have happened in first place.
Check your pads every month and before/after trackdays.
My offside front RS42 pad needed replacing at the last A service and I didn’t expect that for another 5,000 miles. I was told that it would fook the disc if I didn’t replace it soon. Pads are pretty cheap so its worth being pro-active.
if you have to spend that sort of cash then get some ally belled ones from geary at eliseparts.
marc.
From what you are saying I can’t work out whether you are saying that the whole pad - backing plate and friction material came adrift or the friction material parted company with the backing plate?
If the former then I would think that the garage that last serviced it should be contributing something; and if the latter then it should be a warranty issue.
Have you actually seen the items taken off? Is it both the inner and outer pad or just one of them? Post some pics here if you can.
Are the right side pads worn at all? Are you sure that these are working OK?
Pads and dics are one of the easiest things to change yourself, or take to a non-franchised dealer. Looking for an upside, I’d definitiely take the opportunity to look at what’s available as aftermarket and maybe take the chance to upgrade.
Unfortunately havn’t seen pads off car as took down dealer straight away. They said pad completley worn and disc ruined. Pad on other side is fine, and still has ~10mm. I check pads etc… pretty much once a week. To give you an idea about ~10/15 mm of pad was worn away in about 100 miles of driving on motorway.Pad appeared to be intact but just worn down to the metal which obviously screwed disc.
It’s weird cos dealer says there’s nothing wrong with the functioning on any of the brakes. Calipers etc. are all fine and not seized. Was told pad was dislodged in some way and just wore out immediately.
How can a pad be “dislodged” ?? Trying to work that out as its guided by two pins and is a realtive tight fit top and bottom in the caliper itself, unless a pin dropped out ?
