Newbie

Hi All,

New to the forum, im not yet an exige owner but will hopefully be very soon.

At the moment i own a nissan skyline, dynoed at 546bhp @ low boost its very fast and has had a lot of money spent on it, im now looking for something smaller that i can compete in sprinting and hill climbing events as the skyline is more of a touring car designed for long fast tracks.

I’ve been having a real good look round the forum and there is some real good threads and cars!! but i still have a few questions!!

because i want to enter into sprinting and the usual trackdays is the exige being built for track something i could do straight away without major modifications or are modifications like suspension better brakes, etc and idea.

also a downfall with the skyline is oil starvation so alot of people either fit extended sumps or baffles (which mine has) for when they use the car on the track alot, is this a common problem with the exige or not.

i dont know if the owner is a member of this site but there is a nice orange exige on pistonheads at the moment with 29000miles although it did have a rebuild 6k ago, is this commone with exiges because the 1.8 engine is put under a lot of pressure?

Also if anyone fancies a change i would be willing to a deal with someone on my skyline. ive attached a pic to show you guys!

Thanks for reading and hopefully ill see you all soon at an EXIGE meet!!!

I’m sure you’ve realised, but a normally aspirated 190ish bhp is going to feel pretty flat after your current machine!

As you’ve been reading this site, you’ll probably know already that outright power isn’t the Exiges greatest talent in standard form (with Audi or SC Honda power its a rather different matter). It’s satisfaction lies elsewhere. In spades.

I’d see the rebuild of the PH car’s engine as a good thing (depending on who did it). I think that particular car is known to other members here so wait for them to come along and add more details.

There are others far more qualified than me to talk about the VHPD K Series, but the general opinion is that it is fairly highly stressed, there’s no getting away from that. They are somewhat removed from the standard Rover product, built by a company called PTP. Some are better balanced and toleranced than others. Some are prone to early failure, others soldier on for 10s of thousands of miles. Most need some kind of refresh by about 40-50k it’s fair to say, even if only precautionary.

Oil starvation can be an issue on some circuits (notably Rockingham and Spa) with grippy tyres, but no worse than other “production” engines with a wet sump.

Oh, and welcome along!

It was Janspeed (according to their website) that built the original VHPDs for the S1 Exiges.

Hi Alex,

thanks for the response.

I already realise that the car will not give me the same buzz the skyline does when i floor it in 1st 2nd and 3rd but thats not what im after, like you say the exige does it in different ways!

im after a car that i can do sprinting with and have fun on the roads with the occasional track day (i only live 5mins from castle coombe).

there is a nice silver one for sale on autotrader with Sportomotive that only has 16000 on the clock and is pretty standard so i mite go look at that.

Thanks for the advice.

luffy, I live quite close to you then (Marlborough) and while I don’t have an Exige, I have the Elise Sport 190 which has the same VHPD engine and is as close to an Exige as an Elise is likely to get - happy to meet up for a pint and passenger sometime if you like.

Oh, and thumbs up for Sportomotive too, Richard is a really nice guy and the workshop guys know their stuff.

Sportomotive also have an S1 Elise Sport 190 at 17k (Or minus 2k if you don’t want a respray). Appears to be track prep’d with fire extinguisher, rollcage and cutout. Might be a better bet?
