I am Scott from Bellshill near Glasgow, currently driving a 1.4HDi peugeot 206. Bought it couple years back for cheapness to run through my apprentiship as an engineer. (35 tax a year and 65mpg can’t wack it).
I will be qualifying next year and hope to move on to bigger and better things i.e. exige erm mabye bigger wasnt quite correct. Anyways over the next year I hope to basically throw all my money at getting the fiance on the peugeot down to a minimum.
My plans are to buy a chrome orange exige with the toyota engine, although this could possibly change. I have basically signed up to try educate myself over the next year. Want to have knowledge of whats best to go for, depending on my budget next year. I hope to be able to spend 21k-25k roughly but I shall see. I also would like to try keep my peugeot for my runabout and keep the exige for wknd and fun, this again all dependant on budget.
Anyways Ive rabbled enough but I though I would introduce myself and hope to gain loads of knowledge over the next year before finialling getting the exige.
Welcome. Nice bold statement with the wheels on the Peugeot. I think I like them?
With the budget you’ve set you shouldn’t have a problem getting into S2 exige ownership. Might even be a few ‘S’ down at that sort of proce by this time next year.
I am paying 1800 as a main driver on my dads policy. The annual milage is 6000 a year, which is more than what i would do in it as i only use it weekends, i have another car for commuting!
My brother is 22 and pays 650ish for his s1 exige, in his own name with 3 yrs NCB.
Being named on your dads policy is hardly the same as insurance not being expensive; it would be if you were doing it the right way…
i didnt know there was a right and wrong way to insure your car? insurance is insurance! im building my NCB up on my other car! dont see no point in wasting hundreds of pounds in your own name, if youve got the option to use someone elses?

Yeah I checked my insurance for the exige. I done a quote a month ago and put all my details in as I am just now and only tried one company. I got a quote for 1700. I guess with a bit of shopping about I will get a cheaper quote than that. Also there should be another years NCB, driving experience and a year older.
The problem with going on someones insurance, if you are found to be the main driver of a car but only named on an insurance policy can that not be seen as fronting. If your going to own a car I would say insure it yourself.
Anyones next year I qualify in Aug and Birthday is in October so I will be 22-23 with nearly 6 years driving experience 3-4 NCB depending on when I buy it so hopefully get a reasonable premium.
My heart is really set on a chrome orange s2 exige with the 190 toyota engine NA. My heart is really set on that for now as I prefer the looks and my gut feeling tells me that the toyota engine should be more reliable than the rover k series, ducks for cover! I also believe the S2 toyota engine to be more of a daily driver car incase I need to pap the peugeot whereas the S1 would be more suited for track use.
Anyways nope to gain knowledge over the next year mabye my preferance will change once I learn about them!
Yep hear all that 36yo, 10 years ncb, modified (a little ) am paying 1400…I’m so p155ed off!
Enjoy your car you little t0553rs but as somebody once wrote and I quote “don’t drive faster than your angel can fly” seriously good on ya! In my opinion insurance is so messed up make it affordable, because at the end of the day “at least you’re insured” unlike other twats out there
