New to the forum bit help needed.

Hi guys im new to these and only got my exige a few weeks ago, i am over the moon with my new motor but am having a bit of an issue regarding engine ticking over dangerously close to stall and does now and again cut out which can be prevented by hitting the gas. I have had the car in at lotus formula one and no error codes show up on diagnostics so has anyone got any ideas of what it could be and if its an easy fix? Don’t know if it’s just me but it could be lacking a bit of power?

Any help will be appriciated

Welcome !
What motor is it ?

  • model etc.
Ps. I trust you play guitar??

Welcome! What car is it you’ve got?

Assuming it’s an original K series I seem to recall that the idle control valve could stick and cause this (happened on mine years ago).

Post the problem and details in the S1 section where you should get it reviewed by a more focused audience and not get Elise coupe owners telling you Toyota engines are better.

I am of course lining myself up for abuse having changed to a Honda.

If it is an S2 it is a bit of a feature that some cars do this when slowing for roundabouts or lights, I have always found replacing the airfilter (or cleaning) seemed to make it a lot better.

IIRC this was quite a common problem with early S2s, & Lotus dealers could re-flash the ECU to cure it.

Mine (S1 K series engine) did the same for ages and I tried a new throttle control sensor / potentiometer and it cured it straight away.

Enjoy the Exige and the website! Get along to the exiges.com track day if you can, you’ll meet some great guys and pick up a lot of info & ideas. Book a track mange it & it’s on 6 April at Angkesey.

it’s an s 220 2008. certainly do, was considering gilmourboy4 at first

I shall give that a shot mate thanks

Check the right rear wheel speed sensor connection for integrity …
This can confuse the ecu and cause poor idle when slowing to a stop.
Angus !!

Check for induction leak
Check MAF sensor
Check for exhaust leak
Check your O2 sensors are the correct way around and secure
Check the Idle air control valve is not sticking…YouTube this (spray some carb cleaner in there).
There’s more but I need to give it some thought and it can be a fecker to find!

If under warranty or had a re flash lately, do it again as it should cure it or maybe map around it but I’d try the above first.

What others have said… and Welcome!

You forgot the fuel reset Jonny

Im going to try some carb cleaner, Am I right in thinking the airbox needs to be removed? can someone explain a re flash, im fully aware of a map but re flash??

What mods do you have?

Edit to say yes remove the air box.

Had this on the 2-11, turned out to be the inlet manifold gasket leaking…
