New S1 Exige owner in town.

Hi All,

I just wanted to say a big “Hello” as I’m now a full subscriber to the world of the Exige, having purchased Dan’s S1 that I saw advertised on exiges.com.
As you can probably make out from my username, I am a former Elise 111S owner (S1 of course), and bought that car from mhaney. As soon as I’d purchased that car, Simon went out and bought his Chrome Orange Exige and took me out for a blat in it…I was hooked!

Alot of time has passed since then, and the Elise was sold due to it’s ever worsening reliability (I neglected it in that I lost storage for it), and I’ve monitored Exige prices with enthusiasm since 2004. One thing you’ll all know is that they’re on the UP! My poor suffering wife has put up with various conversations about S1 Exiges, and even been with me to a few events where we’ve been able to get “eyes on”. I realised almost 2 years ago that we needed one in our garage as soon as possible, but time and money conspired against us. Recently after a couple of false starts, I made contact with Dan (on this forum) and asked him about his car. Unfortunately, he’d taken a deposit on it, and my mood lowered considerably. Two days later it was back on the market, Yay!

I’m sure you’ve been aware of it, as it’s still on the cars for sale section, but those not familiar, it’s the Titanium car with less than 30,000 miles, a Scholar Evo2 engine putting out 218bhp (on a good day), and has motorsport seats (in red) and harnesses. It looks very very clean.

Now, buying a car based on the South Coast in the UK is hard enough from Lincolnshire…but Afghanistan?!? Fear not, because with the help of the vendor, a very nice chap from SELOC (they do exist), and the local (to Dan) Lotus specialist, the car has been secured.

My wife collects it today, and we are both looking forward to meeting up with you, when life commitments permit. I’d like us to get fully involved with exiges.com and roll on those track events where the reliability of that Scholar 1.9 Evo2 time bomb can be stretched to its limit!

Until I get home from the hole that is this desert, there are no pics as I am on a computer that doesn’t allow photo hosting, so I’ll edit this when I can. In the meantime, here’s the SELOC link to images and thread:

Cheers,
Kurt
Edit: Thank you all for your positive comments, it’s very reassuring that the sense of community is strong.

Congratulations, Kurt! Best thing you’ll ever do.

Nice one Kurt (& Mrs Kurt) :sunglasses:

I started to worry you’d bought it as an investment but thankfully all became clear!

My wife has driven my car twice, both times on to the back of an AA truck - LOL!

Keep your head down and I look forward to meeting you.

Ian

Well done, and welcome

Nice one Kurt, welcome to the fray!

Hi Kurt and Welcome
I bet that R+R seems even further away now!

Alex

Welcome Kurt

Welcome Kurt, look forward to meeting you and seeing the car. My cousin has just come back from said hole in the desert so I know through him what you’re going through.

Coming home will be that bit sweeter knowing what’s waiting for you…

Upon entering the passenger side of my car he set off a chain of events of which he has no further control…

Welcome and nice car

Welcome to the fold and as Ian said, keep your head down!!!

welcome and the car u bought is super nice…enjoy!!

Chaps,

It’s arrived!

At dusk yesterday, Helen finished the journey from Dorset and got the car to our home in Lincolnshire. She reported:

“It’s quick!”
“I had to have the window open on the motorway to keep cool”
“It’s noisey”
“It squats down and grips well”
And when asked what condition the car is in, Helen responded with:
“It’s like a new car, immaculate!”

To say I’m pleased is an understatement and now I’m looking forward to home even more. Thanks Dan for your patience in what could be considered a protracted sale in the light of my geograhical position!
Thank you for you positive, supportive and welcoming comments and hope that I’ll meet some of you at Snetterton, please come over and say hello. Weeks to do out here, roll on summer…

Cheers,
Kurt

I’d be pleased with a wife like that!

Although I think a damper must have gone if there’s significant squating.

Ian

Maybe wifey just had to stop several times on the journey back

She only had to stop on the M25 car park, but there was no squatting there! :astonished:

And Ian, I think my wife is a model for all women when it comes to car indulgence, she really does see what we see in our cars…she just knows. Again, I realise I’m a very lucky man

Kurt

I’m lucky too Kurt. My wife watched the GP again on Sunday because she appreciated the racing; brought a tear to my eye. She went to bed rather than watching the rallying though, so there’s room for improvement (anybody else see Jari’s penulatimate stage attack in Jordan, blime that was some committed driving!).

Bizzarely though she asked for a business case on upgraded brakes (they were the words she used), I have some hope of getting it passed the spending committee.

Ian

Easy Ian…just search out a collection of YouTube clips where the cars’ brakes fail on track…

Business case approved !

(or perhaps be more worried if she won’t approve it at that stage, and keep an eye on your brake lines next time out  )

Slippery slope that one, she’s a smart cookie. The better your brakes work the later you use them.

And if you think I’m going anywhere near pictures of wreaks?! Not a compeling reason to drive fast at all. :s
