My dad and i have been considering getting a written off Exige to work on, whilst we’re not too busy in the garage. We do bodywork, painting and servicing, so we’re in the right trade to do what we intend.
After finding the damaged grey Exige on Ebay and searching the forums, i read the chassis is damaged and a new one is circa 7 grand.
Thing is, if the chassis is made up of sections riveted and bonded/glued together, surely you can get each individual section, either from the dealer, or a breaker somewhere? Or the chassis on the damaged Exige…can it be repaired by someone in the know with alloy?
I’m sure i have more questions, but that’ll do for now.
This is still a bit of a grey area. I have heard of several people who have had repairs done to the chassis, but it is normally looked on as a no no. I am pretty sure you can’t by the various chassis components individually as Lotus by the chassis’s in already made.
I know an S1 chassis is only about 3.5k, so I wouldn’t of thought an S2 was double that.
Normally we wouldn’t bother with a job with has any question marks against it, but it’s worth considering at the moment.
Maybe the VX220 chassis is the same?
I see a red Exige on Ebay for sale too and the trader supplies all parts with the sale of the vehicle, to repair it, even thought they state in the ad the chassis is damaged.
It’s a lot of work to go replace a chassis, but so is building a kit car…gives you something to do.
I thought you were a bit hung over there or something!
I have a nice 96 WRX here in white if you fancy it?
Things are good here, but i do miss having my own car. Missus is using the wee Mini S all the time and after having the P1 for only 6 months or so, it’s back to reality.
Dad has fancied something a bit “different” for a while now, but isn’t sure what. I of course say an Exige is probably the best of all worlds, but when you think about all what you can get for 20kish, the options open up a bit.
They have a 111R on Pistonheads, which might have be of interest…still trying to work out the major differences between an Elise and Exige of that age.
