Hi Chris,
Whats an Elise ? Is it one of those cars where the roof comes off ?
Ex77
yes it is … mmm am i posting on the wrong forum … was looking at exiges too … someone told me that they same as elise but with hard roof and few sports upgrades . … can anyone advise me further?
thx
An Exige, particularly the S1, is much more track focused. Firmer suspension, bigger wheels, aero, etc.
There are lots of little differences, the body shells are even constructed via a different process to the Elise on the S2.

Don’t forget the 70bhp either!

or the fact that the Exige is even more impractical, has less bootspace, is louder, hotter inside (and outside ), less fun on speed bumps, difficult to drive in stop-and-go-city-traffic, more expensive, needs proper servicing, and so on.
Oh yes.
Almost forgot this: it’s a roaring fantastic excellent breathtaking one-of-a-kind brilliant piece of engineering! Love it or hate it - i LOVE!! it!
Testdriver… WELL SAID THAT MAN!
ok … how about the comfort of an s2 body shell elise with exige smashing performance?(can have the roof down so like a convertable …nice!) … ie suspension brakes … running 360hp or more? hehe … Im after better build quality than the s1 so s2 option… I own a fast audi so am very confident on the engines … its done 150000miles and going strong… Im looking at more performance and more looks… Im just trying to get the most from the build quality … its going to be a daily driver. I can handle the impracticality for Im single and no kids.
Any more thoughts guys? I just here about garage issues with lotus thats all and generally german cars seem more superior… especially to fork out a lot of cash into a car I have to know if it will be of a quality standard.

S2s are near impossible to get that sort of power out of. The S1 has a range of engine-swap options, but as I’m aware, there’s VERY few people that have done conversions to the S2 Toyota-powered Elise/Exige thus far. Getting 360bhp out of the Toyota engine would be an exercise in how short you can make your engine live for.
You can get both the honda and audi conversion done on earlier s2 elises, then you could always put an exige body on, this is a little more involved as it requires different bits compared to the rover engined cars. You can also remove the s2 exige roof if its the exige looks your after

But when you are alone in your bed you will always know you’ve only got an Elise. You will always be thinking “If only I had an Exige, If only I had a proper car”.
I am sure it would plague you for the rest of your life !
Good luck with what ever you choose.

by the way: best site with spec sheets on the S1 Exige I’ve found so far is myexige.co.uk
thx guys for your posts … im after the look of an exige but being able to take the roof off for the summer any options on this? …
Chris,
you could get a convertible kit from Lotus. Hard roof on when your out with the guys and the soft top (Like Elise) when your not out with the guys.
I didn’t post this though !
You aint seen me right !
don’t tell Pesky it was me !
Not Ex77
hehe cool ill look into it … what you worried about? they look really cool as a cabriolet …
like a mini ferarri? … Im trying to do my home work atm … its either tune a elise/exige or tune my audi coupe s2(4wd turbo) … so its take the plunge to rear wheel drive??
what are they like in wet? … drive safely?
