We have been working behind the scenes with our good friends over at Daytuner to produce a plug and play ECU for the rover engine’ d cars…
Many of our customers have fit Emerald Ecu’s in the past and travelled for miles just to have it re-mapped. that’s fine but if we can access another ECU that’s actually far more advanced than the emerald + we can have it mapped locally to us (10 min drive from us to Daytuner) then i think this is far better solution! not just for the initial mapping but if you add anything literally pop back for a map tweak job done!
The ECU we have been working with is the MBE 9A4 supplied by SBD Motorsport, damian has worked with these for a long time and they are brilliant. We have now made patch leads for all rover variants which plugs into your exiting engine loom plug.
Our test cars included an Elise S1 sport 160 + S2 Elise on ITBS with great results
Pricing is as follows :
Supply & Fit MBE 9A4 ECU & Adaptor loom for your fitment & Custom remap for your spec £1395 + VAT
as an introductory offer for exiges.com we are offering it @ £1295 + VAT (ends March 31st 2021)
if you require any modifications prior mapping, drop us a line. We have carried out extensive work on various models and always happy to work with our customers
So why is it better? I have used an Emerald and went back to the original which works fine with corrected cam timing and a functioning O2 sensor. The only problem I had with the emerald was the time to get all of the mappings and things like compensation for auxiliary loads. The Ecu did not lack capability but I lacked dyno time to map it perfectly. Interested to hear what the extra functions are? Thanks.
A couple of the main benefits with the MBE 9A4 are :
The internal Processer much more powerful, While chatting with Damian he said “Emerald are like the 1st iPhone, and the MBE are like the iPhone 10” making mapping quicker essentially.
Along with the Load Vs Speed table in Emerald is 16 X 16, With the MBE its actually 16 X 64 giving more scope for more refined map, and fine tuning from down at 50RPM.
We have driven a lot of Elise’s & Exige’s with emeralds and most times the maps always seem like they still need work, and the fact that most rolling roads in Yorkshire don’t like mapping them because they are so time consuming to do so.
With Daytuner being so local, and he knows these ECU’s inside out, means we get great results every time with smooth power delivery. (an added bonus if you want to add cams or ITBS say and just want the map tweaking)
Hope this helps, I can get more info of Damian if needed just drop us a line
Hi Jonny
Nice to have a chat with you the other day regarding the MBE ecu. I managed to speak with Jim about the sports cat and hopefully get one sorted next month .
Thanks. My car is great on the standard ecu so I have no plans to change. I did try an Emerald. Basic mapping was easy and worked well on track. It was the other things, like idle control with the lights, heater and wipers on that proved tricky, big changes in air pressure and how to map that in, and getting canister purge to work etc.
What would have made life much easier would be more adaptive learning software in the ecu, starting with a wide band lambda, load based idle control, purge control etc. I think the emerald is an MPC power PC, so it has plenty of compute beans though it is old, it’s not running windows so the compute task is not big and has not grown in complexity.
I fixed my car with verniers and a new lambda sensor and gave up mapping and reinstalled the oem ecu. I used the Emerald to find my engine faults!
Elise Collected today from Daytuner, this is one of the MBE 9A4 fully mapped, now to get the clam on
Don’t forget chaps if you order a ECU anytime in Feb we are doing an into offer (£1295 + VAT) for the ECU, Fitting & Full mapping session to your spec.
Looking good Jonny and I presume the rolling road session saw some great results.
My new 2bular sports cat is now on order, so hopefully I’ll receive it in the next couple of weeks
great stuff just give us a shout once you have received it!
Yeah this one made 176BHP with the EP Tuning throttle bodies & Cams. Once I had built the car back up I took it on a lengthy test drive and was impressed how well it drove even low down in the rev range…damian spent a fair amount of time smoothing the map out which you really feel while driving it.
