[video:youtube]New Lotus Elise (concept car Paris 2010) - YouTube[/video]
Looks good - more announcements tomorrow at the Paris show.
That looks very not minimalist though
Cool!
Impressive stuff, with LHD, seems they are forgetting their legacy and where they came from
Countdown to Space Shuttle launch!
Am I the first one to have seen the cast???
A really neat heritage driven start that is spot on with what Lotus DNA is all about.
Must say that following the ‘unveilings’, the only car that got my heart pumping was the Elite! SO cool and just something in the looks that really seems a step ahead…
Will be great to see all 3 in the flesh however…
Is it me or does the Esprit and the Elan look the same…apart from that I’m fairly speechless…well that and how dated our cars may look by 2015

A few speculative prices on here… http://www.lotus-central.com/
Well I guess I am the only one who feels really saddened by yesterday
I am probably a little sad but I have loved Lotus since school and I’ll never forget the day I saw my first elise. They have always been different, a true British company that flew in the face of everyone else.
Less is more, add lightness etc… I have always loved the Lotus way of doing things, a true underdog who at times managed to come out on top.
Lets not forget that everytime a supercar is actually any good the motoring press call it a ‘big elise’ …
Lotus ownership for me has been something special, I have never met such friendly people or felt such a sense of community. The guys at the dealers are spot on and even those at Lotus have always seemed like you could just pick up a phone and talk to them.
From what I can see the new management have paid no attention to any of this, they are hell bent on trying to build some sort of mini Ferrari fireing off the existing Lotus owner in favour of the super rich.
In the elise promo they say it’s grown up and matured… Well it’s not an elise then because thats what the elise is all about.
They have totally removed the existing Lotus look in favour of an Audi like corporate face where you cannot tell one car from another
and none of them say Lotus if you removed the badge.
I also read that they are going to remove the existing dealer network as twenty six dealers is to many for a prestige brand… they are going to have the grand total of three! So are Porsche not a prestige brand then because they have thirty four dealers. I am not sure how they expect to sell cars with no dealers so I am guessing we are not the market they want.
Well I’m going on now but I really do feel like I have had my car company taken away from me. The Lotus DNA seems to be gone and from what I can see I will not have any interest in the new cars even if I can afford them.
Looks like I am keeping the S2… one day I might even upgrade to an S1
Nah, you’re not on your own Boothy, but there’s nowt we can do!
Don’t forget my “punt in the dark” - Caterham to takeover the current Exige/Elise models, & use Duratec drivetrains instead of Toyota. DNA @ sensible money continues/improves, just like it does with the Seven. What’s wrong with that - everyone’s happy? Ok that’s a personal view, but I primarily want my fun car for the track, & nowadays am content to have something really basic/economical for everyday use.

Seconded.
I know what you mean Rob but I would have no reason to want a caterham elise or exige and I guess it would take away from our cars being future classics.
For me there is something about the brand Lotus and all that goes with it, caterham just does not do that for me as much as I like them.
As I said, I am probably sad but I remember the day I got my first elise. Holding that wheel and looking at the badge sitting there on it. That was something special for me
Boothy - I may be wrong, but you appear to be more concerned about what other folk think, rather than driving a car because it gives you pleasure?
I’m afraid you (& the rest of us) will just have to come to terms with the fact that the old Lotus is well & truly dead.
Now then, young man, think positively! You’ve got a great car - rejoice in/relish that fact, & enjoy it to the full as long as you are able to - & hopefully, you’ll never need to sell it. I can’t believe you’ll not always smile whenever you see it in your garage, let alone drive it! Keep yer pecker up, dude!

Your wrong on that one Dad, I just love Lotus.
Correct on all other points though. I know exacty what you are saying, I just can’t believe whats happened to Lotus Its like its not Lotus anymore
I totally agree Boothy. I think all the cars look great, but they don’t have any lotus styling cue’s
3 Dealerships is ridiculous just because they’ve made 4 1/2 drones (I say half as the Eterne was just a shell, did you see the black windows??) It doesn’t make them Lamborghini!!! I’m very worried it was the Elise that saved Lotus, I just don’t know I have very mixed feelings at the moment.
where are the engines coming from?? if there making them, themselves, surely it stands to be another speed 6 all over again
due to lack of budget.
Going up against Porsche,Audi,Lambo,Aston,Ferrari, the build quality needs to be Perfect and I can’t see the infrastructure
to produce this type of quality, you can either go the Rolls Royce way hand made very labour intensive and very expensive, or you have the highly mechanised Audi way massive investment required.
