Picked up the car yesterday from Sincs after having a different core design chargecooler from MMG fitted along with an even smaller pulley wheel and remap.
Results were very good, made an extra 20 bhp and 12 ft lbs torque giving me headline figures of 290 bhp and 194 ft lbs torque at the hubs. Not sure what the general feeling is for transmission loses but going with a conservative 12.5% the engine is making: 326 bhp and 218 ft lbs torque. The extra torque came in early from just 2400 rpm it had risen from a previous best of 117 ft lbs torque to 134 ft lbs torque.
From speaking to Wayne the extra power wasnt all to do with the smaller pulley as the new chargecooler core seemed to be contributing to the big jump in power too. He’s done other remaps with this size pulley and not seen as much power before. Also the bigger bore 2bular manifold and exhaust system helped keep the boost pressures down to a reasonable 8 psi max - well within safe limits.
Driving the car back yesterday it felt very quick, much more torque early on giving real urge from low down. Traction
was bad before at 300bhp but now it breaks traction in 1st 2nd and 3rd altho the mix of wet roads and A048’s didnt help.
Wise words Evo …
I know most of us take the p** out of na cars , but, if truth be known how many of us Jonny come lately S2 s/c guys can use 50% of our cars potential?
Not me for sure …
Money can buy performance buy not replace talent !
A phrase lifted from my comp flying circles
I’m with Will, here I brake and change down from 5th to 4th at the bottom of the hill for Eau Rouge, I tried it in 5th once and ran out of talent and road
I disagree I feel power brings with it untold tallant!!!
I mean when my car comes on boost, my muscles bulge, I turn a bit green and a big ‘S’ pops out on my chest!!!
HAHA
In all seriousness though, I remember watching Martin Donneley in the LOT race at Spa a few years ago and he came down the hill flat out in an SC211 and didn’t lift all the way through Eau Rouge. The whole of the endurance pit held their breath as he did it lap after lap. He was always a bit wiggly as he came out the top, but he hung onto it. Very very cool! My balls are deffo not as big as his!
Sorry Ade, don’t know other than Wayne recommended this even smaller pulley specifically to take advantage of the lower boost pressures I’m running (same as yours I guess) due to the bigger bore manifold and chargecooler setup. Just do it, you’re still going to running fairly low boost and you’ve even got the gearbox to cope so no excuses!
Also worth mentioning that my 550c injectors are now running nearly 90% duty cycle, so for those that don’t think you need to upgrade them I’d be careful, if these are running out of headroom the stock ones must be way over the safety limit.
As my car is only a track car, adding more power to the standard engine will be the death of it I’m sure, once I can afford the engine rebuild to replace the pistons etc. I will be going for ubber boost with the smallest pulley you can use
I will but it will be next winter now as funds are tight since buying the house, I also need to keep working, which, as I work indirectly for HMG might be a rather large problem
