NA roof scoop

Is the roof scoop on the N/A’s ‘genuine’, or is it blanked off?

Its not obvious if the black gauze at the front allows air to flow through it or not - how can I remove it?

It’s a fake. Think the mesh is held on with plastic rivets what you could drill out.

Thanks!

I’ve drilled out the rivets, removed the plastic blank and refitted the mesh. The scoop is functional. It should give a little more cooling into the engine bay. Not sure why they blanked it, either drag reduction, noise reduction or cosmetics to hide the fibreglass inside. The latter I guess.

Yes I have taken the mesh off and its a bit of an eye sore at the moment, going to clean it up at the weekend. Do you reckon its noisier?

Be aware that sometimes, my old car included, the seal between the inner and outer skins of the roof isnt always perfect, more so on the N/A cars. If this is the case, by opening up the intake, water can get between the two layers and leak in along the edge of the roof above the window through the cloth liner.
The answer was to put a bead of silicone (using the arm of a small child/animal/freakishly thin adult) along either side of the roof duct internally.

I can’t hear anything but engine! Mainly due to removing all the bulkhead cladding and fitting a plexi rear window. I’ll have to find a small mammal to apply that silicon.
