With ref to John’s Toyo power figures thread, I thought I would post a ‘K’ series one!!!
To start, my standard Exige S1 originally made 172 BHP. After the DVA work and the Emerald, the Exige made 201 BHP and 140 ft lbs…
TODAY I was bored… so drove up through Stourbridge to Aldon Automotive to have a power run done on my ‘Gay’ Elise!
Power wise… well my S2 111s advertised at 156 BHP makes…
…148 bhp! at 7,600 RPM
TBH, that’s about what I expected…
Nice flat torque curve though… a tiny 120 lbs all the way from 1,500 rpm to the rev limit!!!
Wierdly, we noticed the TB butterfly did not fully open with full throttle applied. So we undid the adjusting nuts and tightened the throttle cable so full throttle then gave a fully open butterfly.
The power run after that gave 5 BHP LESS!!! WTF!
Returned the nuts to their original position and hey presto the 5 BHP came back!!!
WHY would a TB not fully open give MORE power!!! I am at a loss to explain this one!!???
Anyway, a good way to spend a few hours and I even managed to avoid the rain! (y) Kept my eyes out for Benja but he was obviously in ‘stealth’ mode!
I,m guessing that fully open is allowing more air which is good … but the fuelling has to increase too … If it doesn’t then power will drop ??
Brings back memories does Aldon Automotive used them about 20 years ago whilst tuning a Manta !!
Also , does anyone local remember the Lafhay performance centre in Lye ? Used their rolling road around the same time …
Just down the road from Sean B’s curryhouse !!
