Mystery rear clam screws

…Take a look at any picture of an S1 in the “Owners Cars” section, and you will see two screws at the top of the rear clam, above the door and aft of the roof panel.

Yet in Service Parts List, section 10.08 to be exact, there is no illustration nor reference that these screws exist. Same goes with the Service Notes Manual.

So I lost one, but I can’t find the spec/part number to order another set. It’s pseudo-chromed look will be hard to replace on my own.

Does anyone know if they are the same length and size as the front splitter?

Why not take out the remaining one, plus one from the front splitter - then compare?

Clam good idea!

That may be because the very first Exiges did not have fastners here, but they were introduced on the production line. I thought they were shown in my version of the service manual - but will have to check tonight when I get home. If so maybe you have an early set of manuals and a late car!

Its a stainless set screw. Have you also lost the cup washer that goes with it?

Not in my manual either (2000/03 Exige Supplement page 7)…

Is there a more up to date manual somewhere ? PM’s please

Well I’ll be…that’s the same version I have and you are correct there are no fittings shown! I could have shorn there were!

Too bad that we collectively don’t have updated manuals!

To answer the direct questions directed to me:

  1. I store my car at a facility 10 miles from house, so its easier posting here than driving there.
  2. I have lost both the stainless set screw and the cup washer.

I’ll take a look at my car tomorrow, & compare the roof & splitter fastenings for you.

Top man, Mr P. Didn’t realise that our compadre was in the Windy City until read his last post.Pip,pip!

Good news - they are the same

Sorry to hijack the thread slightly, but is there any chance someone could send me a copy of the exige section of the parts list. Thanks

There are a couple of us S1 Exige owners in the Windy City - it is probably highest concentration of S1 Exiges in the States!!!

Pesky - Thank you very much for confirming. In this case, I like how Lotus’ “factory floor engineering” re-used the existing fasteners - it only helps us as well.

Meat - want me to buy a collection of fasteners and we’ll split it down the middle?

Acestes - I only have a hard copy. I purchased it from http://www.lotus-books.com/.

Thanks for the info Beto. I think I might invest in a copy as its’ a bit of a pain having to look at a copy on a comupter when trying to work on the car.

You’re very welcome, mate, only took about 2 mins to check.
Good job I’m not a lawyer, otherwise that would have cost you $50

My version is dated Jan 2000, so has no reference to the Exige

Sounds like you have the same version as me then
