MY08 S2 - Alcantara steering wheel

Does anyone know of how to get an alcantara wheel for MY08 S2 Exige S?

It has an airbag, so am I resigned to keepiing the VX220 wheel it came with

Did you have any luck with fitting alcantera wheel Damon.
Steve

I really thought I would hate my 08 airbag wheel after three Lotus with the old style wheel but after a week or so I liked the new one better, I am really getting along with it now and I would not swap back to the old dash and wheel at all. Only pain is I keep pressing the horn

The accidental horn pressing got so bad for me I have pulled the fuse. Particularly embarrassing on track, could be interpreted as a “get out of my way slow person” gesture.
Probably illegal in its hornless state but I can’t remember ever having used a horn deliberately.

The position of the horn is ugly…
A lot of the vx users pull the fuse on the track.
But back to topic.
Alcantara wheel is no problem…
Look at www.edel-car-parts.de
→ Speedster → Opel Speedster → Interieur
And then take a look at the steering wheel…

I already have sparco wheel but been told by the dealer that there will be a big gap where the boss meets the steering column cover due to it being so much bigger than on non 08 models. anyone lnow of a solution?

Hi Steve, yep been to the ring. cant wait to go back. Stelvio was incredible. Therers a fair few Exiges upnorth now we should try and arrange a get together some time.

Hi Ian, yeah sounds good Tim (timarra) would probably be up for meet too.
Steve

So nobody fitted different steering wheel to 08 Exige yet?

Looks like a straight, plug-n-play upgrade to me. Just need the following details.

  • Is the SRS airbag attached to the steering wheel? Majority of airbag wheels, it’s a separate 2 piece component, which means you only need to buy the steering wheel and save the money buying a new airbag, damn airbag module can be as expensive as the steering wheel itself.

  • Any Exige owners pulled apart their steering wheel yet? If so, this will allow us to confirm if my above statement is correct.

  • And, what is the GM part number for this steering wheel? Don’t need to buy from that site, just need the part number and you can buy it at your local Vauxhall dealership and save some money here too.
