We do a cardholder data discovery software tool - the idea being you use it to search your computers looking for staff/customer payment card data and encrypt/delete it before the bad guys find it! www.4techsoftware.com
The main thing we’re looking for right now isn’t so much customers, but a decent software developer! Please form an orderly queue!
Back to the car, I finally got round to fitting the new centre console and taking a few (rubbish) pics of the interior!
i like the seats and the gear knob
Unless I’m mistaken , the gear knob can be bought from Hangar 111, I have one , it’s heavier and helps with gear ‘throw’ considerably , not cheap , but worth it , IMHO

Those seats look rubbish - take them out and give them to me…
those seats…(scatty wolf whistles)…
single or double skinned?
Don’t actually know! I do know even the cheap ones are 860 each once the pad set and vat are factored in!
Single skin
So I went to drive the car after having the new idle control valve fitted and thermostat fitted and it didn’t go that well.
Air locks in the system meant it got too hot (didn’t overheat, but was still hotter than it should be).
So the inlet manifold had to come off to put a bleed hole in the thermostat…
Ever since I bought the car I’d planned on tidying up the engine, so this was my opportunity.
Current bay:
Cam cover has come off to have all the ‘guff’ milled off:
These parts will be going off to the powder coaters next week to go satin black…
Ahhh I still want this car BAAAD
1.8T has always had an ugly cam cover, great to see it being cleaned up. I had one of these one the las VAG car I had:
Useful for keeping water out of the coils on a Lotus
those seats looks lovely!!!
Engine is back together now.
It’s now got a Cosworth idle control valve (to sort the poor cold start) a smaller turbo exhaust housing (to hopefully decrease lag and increase response) a new thermostat (to get it running warmer during motorway cruising) and the black powder coated parts (will add at least an extra 30hp

After:
It’s on the rolling road today, so in the next few hours I should know exactly how the new turbo compares to the old one…
Watch this space…
Nice upgrades, looks properly clean
Looking good …
Finally that Orange Exige with dodgy wiring got out of the way huh ?
Haha - seems we’ve both been contributing to Martin’s grey over the last few days/weeks!
Yesterday’s mapping didn’t go quite as well as we’d hoped.
The new turbo housing was only making 1.2bar of boost with the boost duty (ECU controlled in my case) at 100%.
We pressurised the engine and found the dump valve and an injector seal were leaking, but they weren’t leaking enough to lose the extra 1bar that should be available.
With the above leaks fixed we still only had a maximum of 1.3bar - enough for 330bhp.
On a positive note the new housing is coming on boost around 700rpm earlier… I just wish it carried on making the 1.8ish bar we were expecting and that the previous exhaust housing was making!
So the next step is taking the turbo back off on Monday and inspecting for suspected ill-seated wastegate penny or cracked housing.
The graph below shows (top lines power, bottom lines boost):
422bhp @ 1.8 bar with larger turbo exhaust housing in blue.
330bhp @ 1.3 bar with smaller turbo exhaust housing in red.
What we wanted to do was compare the housings at the same boost levels. Fingers crossed we’ll be able to do that next week…
it will all come good in the end matey. Still gutted you have to sell it.
