picled her up just before xmas, and just cant get enough of it! LOVE IT! haha! Its a 190, sitting on ao48’s, nitron coilover suspension, short shift, harnesses, carbon airbox, janspeed exhaust, sport cat, braided hoses etc etc…
after selling my elise over a year ago, ive missed the whole lotus scene, so i just had to get an exige!
right lets try this picture thing! here goes nothin:
I know there are some clever chaps on here, need advice about how the loud the car is, im looking at bedford autodrome on 4th march, and it needs to be under 100db?! any idea of finding out how loud it is
Congrats. Unfortunately the “management” at my work have banned photo sites so I can’t see your pictures.
Regarding the noise, if it is convenient for you, take it over to Bedford before the day and get them to check. There’s no point guessing it or taking it somewhere else if the marshals on the day say it is over the limit.
You can’t have a defence of “I had a noise reading down my local garage of blah blah blah” because all that matters is what they read it as.
However, with the sports cat you SHOULD be ok for 100db.
excellent photos, really do bring out the lines of the car.
Have done Bedford several times with the same engine/exhaust combo as you, so you should be OK. They tested me on the road on the way in - just make sure you don’t over rev it for them!
If you want to test it yourself then you need one of these:
Very nice…good pics and nice colour …I had a 190 S1 with Sports Exhaust and it read 108db at Castle Coombe. Had to buy one of those exhaust tampons to get it below 100db.
I know that there is no arguing on the day if someone’s meter reads over the limit, but I do wonder at the range of readings given the same basic setup. OK there must be a natural range from one car to another, but just how accurate are some of the meters used - plus or minus 10% or even more?
car looks great and you will enjoy it, it’s just too clean .
Bedford is great fun in the Exige, as for noise, as Fiona said they will test it there beforehand if you give them a call (Tel:01234 332400). They are tighter on the way in now with checking you give correct revs so no longer able to give a lower rpm as Steve mentioned. You should however be okay.
If you are set on the 4th March make sure you book it with the actual organiser www.easytrack.co.uk and not through ww.trackdays.co.uk as you will save 30 as it currently stands (or you could come on the 28th Jan with us for 99 )
Thanks for the valuable info! Ive managed to borrow a db metre, so ill give it a test 2mo, fingers crossed!
Soz for the confusion with the pics, the top one i took when i collected it, and the others are the original owners pics, with the old tyres on and before coilovers fitted.
I should have taken some more pics really, but ive been so busy at work, paying for the 2000 insurance!
anyway, im loving the car, i just cant get enough of it! really looking forward 2 bedford, Hope i dont have to rent the silencing equipment, surely that cant be good for the motor?!
forgot to mention mine has carbon airbox, decat pipe and lotus janspeed. It measured less than 100DB when it was last tested. I bought one of these which fits on the janspeed in place of the tail pipe. Not tried it yet. Its an ugly mother but better than getting kicked off the track!

Mark - my only concern was not to over-rev rather than attempt to “cheat”. At my last outing at Bedford they had two people doing the testing - one with a meter at the back whilst the other had his head in your window watching the rev counter.
