then I added a layer of accustic wadding, re fitted the plastic cover (that had been dynamatted on the rear) and bolted in the kenwood ksc sw1 active 6.5in sub bow below the harness bar and filled the gaps behind the rear speakers with more wadding
all I had to do know was to refit the seats but while they were out I thought i might as well chuck in some Luke 4 point harnesses to compliment the std 3 points
Im really chuffed with the results of the sound system especially when it cost under 300 its not chav box boomy but comparable with the Bose in my Audi for sound and volume and only adds about 9kgs in weight (i wont hear the new exhaust when it eventually arives at this rate ) and reccomend it as an upgrade for anyone who uses there car on a daily basis
Back in my young crazy boy racer days (last week - not ) I had a rather second hand Citreon AX GT. I used Dynamat in all the doors, rear wings and boot. Made a reasonable improvement, the biggest change was the noise the doors made when you slammed them, instead of going clang them went thud. I’m not sure about using it too much on the Exige but I’d really like to try it on the interior panels around the speakers inconjunction with a decent set of drivers. I think I’ll pass on the sub for now though - I reckon I’ll have to spend quite a lot on a decent aerial just to be able to hear a decent source. The Woodstock CD is sh1t its got no cache memory and the roads I drive one means it never gets through a track without skipping a dozen times.
Please somebody has the guts to admit that they are willing to do something about the god awful sound system supplied by Lotus. Looks a good compromise…
Couple o’three questions
Where did you take the power from to drive the amp?
You say you bolted the Sub on to the plastic back panel… does it not vibrate?
How easy was the cabling run to the head unit, did you take it under the handbrake/gear lever shroud?

Each to there own is what I say. Many loti owners never track there cars I dont understand that at all. All I know is I will cover about 15 k in mine this year(95%hard or track miles) the the upgrade will make MY life more pleasent.

I took both + and - feed straight from the battery throgh the main grommett in the bulkhead
2 no vibration at all there is wadding and dynamat between the cover and bulk head and a small square of foam between box and bulkhead cover.
3.running the cables was the hardest bit (though now ive done it next time would be a peice of pi$$ and yes i did run the rcas and remote power under handbrake and shroud
no but nor am i someone who goes to Richer Sounds to buy gold plated connects to improve sound quality
the standard system is absolutely fine in my humble opinion - clear, crisp sound and 4 speakers - and with a stage 2 its not really something that i’m going to spend money ‘improving’
I have taken to using my Bose noise cancelling headphones. They defiantly reduce how knackered I feel after a couple of 100 miles. I can still hear the engine and other cars so quite a good option
agreed but IMHO 300 is far better than spunking up 1500 for the touring pack(that I didnt) that essentially is extra soundproofing a DAB radio (thats not very good) and elec windows FFS
I’ve done a similar thing with my 240R… no dynomat though except behind the speakers which made a huge difference.
I’ve got four focal speakers and a Pioneer self contained sub (only weights 1.2kg) and the sound difference is amazing.
I did this because I wanted proper navigation fitted to the car and a rear view camera (as I can’t see a thing following me) so now have a flip up headunit.
Total weight increase is less than 3KG… but on a long drive to spa or somewhere and finding a hotel in the dark on your own in a forgien country… wouldn’t be without it.
And yes my car spend a LOT of time on track even though it’s a fat S2…
