my bad year contiues

Gutted for you Ade. 8 weeks to go and it’s a whole new year.

As for the hiding of keys, extra locks, posts, etc, you have got to be off your tits to want to wake up in the middle of the night by someone demanding the keys from you. If they want it, they will get it, and I would much rather they just take it and bugger off.

Sadly this has been going on for as long as cars have been worth more than 2p. The thieves are one step ahead when cars are a couple of years old, but when they are new its much easier to uplift the whole thing or get hold of the keys.

So do wish to confront them?

Also after you’ve fitted the tracker, and later get you’re car back minus the key you’ll be able to enjoy a tow charge, compound charge on a daily rate, more tow charges (because your car is uninsured, keys are still with the jackers) and new dealer fitted locks at a dealer fitted rate. Again, been there done that…to claim or not to claim…either way would have rather the car was just gone. That way I could spend the GAP payment I always haggle in.

I don’t blame you for giving it large but you’ll have a whole different mind set if it ever happens to you.

Do I wish to confront them? Of course not. Who would wish for that? Does a tripped alarm act as an aid to you during a burglary? Of course it does. Would a house with an alarm sounding be a trickier proposition for the burglar than one without? Of course it would. If they broke in and it resulted in confrontation, so be it.

I absolutely am not ‘giving it large’ at all. I note something decidedly defeatist, almost accepting of having an alarm and not arming it on the off chance that it is triggered.

You didn’t answer my earlier question, do you have a house alarm yet not arm it? Is that the case? Or have you decided house alarms are not for you for the reason you have stated previously?

(although this is now terribly off topic for ade and wishing him well).

yeah exactly that really, too many chances for false alarms. Alarms also don’t get investigated in any reasonable time, if they’re brazen enough to break in while you’re in they won’t mind a little noise. If you’ve got an alarm I can see sense in using it, but I’m not rushing out to buy one.

I’ve not been hit over the head like johnny. I have however had a group storm a building I was working in and had to hide in the server room behind a steel door. They tried to batter down the door, and managed to march it 4-5cm out of the wall complete with frame before giving up. They could see us on the phone through the glass to the police but didn’t care and got away.

It then happened to me again at a different place, this time in broad daylight and we came down to investigate why systems were down to see a load of guys bundling out of the front door servers under arm. Alarms triggered, police response under ‘red care’ and panic alarms. Little use.

Do I want anything near that for the sake of a used car? I seriously doubt me in my boxers is going to achieve anything.

Some of the cheap trackers are pants , after some research on them last year I got one of these , it’s worked perfectly : http://www.pakatak.co.uk/shopv7/product.asp?P_ID=649
It will even text you if the car moves .

True !

Have a few bottles of ammonia round the house …
perfectly legal and THE best way of disabling anyone …Even from 10 feet away in total darkness

You are laughable and totally ignorant. This is fact, not a rant. They don’t care if your alarm goes off probably even less so then your neighbours in the middle of the night…another false alarm, probably… ZzzzzZzzzz. They’ll want what there came for. I have sat in front of CID on two occasions for well over an hour and don’t take kindly to being called defeatist when CID tell me they do not care. They do not care what terror they’ll cause you, your child, your wife or your elderly mother. They’ll laugh at you crying, pissing your pants as they hold a knife to your son’s neck to get what they came for. This really is fact, I know because the defeatist Detective sat right there and told me. They laugh at the judge during sentencing, they don’t care because they are going back to where they came from. It’s not there first time burgling a house, it’s there 200th+ time. There have a system, it’s tried and test hundreds and hundreds of times. Terror, it’s all based on scaring the fucking shit out of you. And it’ll haunt you, you’re wife and your children for years after, you may not think so because it hasn’t happened to you and you’re clearly and ignorant shit who can’t understand there could be another very violent side to what you want to think, life’s a bed roses. My car was to be used a pool car, I suppose someone as enlightened as yourself knows what one of those is? All the gangs and cells locally can use it, you lose it you replace it, you bend it you mend it. Cash points, clothes stores, off licences, garages, fags shops… They don’t have to work, life is free inside and out. Or do you think your GTI or RS is going abroad HA HA HA yea right that’s what we tell each other on forums. Parts…LOL okey dokey! So go buy an RS4, set your poxy alarm which I assume is state of the art and see where it gets you. The bottom line to all this is you made a stupid comment on a thread that requires a little sympathy but you’re too ignorant to admit it. A poxy ebay tracker, come on listen to yourself.

In terms of the investigation of alarms, you are basing your views on your own subjective understanding. My locale has an ‘act on’ policy to all alarms. They rarely go off. When I say rarely I mean a few times in 20 yrs. We have arranged a policy between neighbours where should there be an alarm, those that are in go and investigate. I have done it twice and both were false alarms. Not a particularly bad hit over 10 years. But I’m fairness, that is down to the inhabitants intuition. Alarms work. The area where I live has had no burglaries for over 20 years. I can’t state the position before that, I didn’t live here, but we all have security, we use it, and we act when should another appear to need help.

@johnnyfox I just saw your response above. Please, really your view of the criminal fraternity, I do have a bit of experience on that front. called barrister, so I understand the ‘market’ as it were. I’ve been there, a few times  your vitriolic response does you no favours. I do not understand why you need to display such anger in a perfectly rational discussion.

What on earth is going on here?! I can drift a thread with the best of them but this is now (at best!) ignoring the fresh pains of one long standing forum member and raking up (clearly!) painful memories for another (normally fairly mild mannered).

Call me soft if you like but I’d suggest we leave the thread as good wishes to Ade (before it ends up in the Muppet section).

I’m guessing that getting beaten with a baseball bat for your keys is pretty traumatic. The kind of event that forces you to reconsider the way you look at the world in ways that you can’t imagine unless errrr…you’ve been beaten up with a baseball bat.

I’m with Ian, and have deep felt sympathy for my mates Ade and Jonny.

I completely agree. I made that point above. This should be about ade.

Fortunately I have never been a victim of this sort of thing, but Jonny has (twice). I also know that Jonny is no mug/easy touch, & my gut feeling is that his view/perception is accurate & probably the best option in the circumstances. I would much rather my car disappear in the hands of scumbags rather than my family’s future well being.

Fully understand that the victims of crime see crime in an accentuated form. Everything seems amplified when the speakers are pointed directly at one’s ears.

Are you a politician too?

No

^ You may want to re read/write how that post comes across to be fair.

Why? Seems fine to me.

For clarity, I am stating that everything seems amplified when one has suffered negatively.

Appreciate what you said. You even said it twice to make sure people understood. Particularly like the second one, far more condescending than the first.

What I meant was, that you were digging your hole of insensitivity even deeper.
