Anybody fitted one of these to the n/a 2ZZ engine?
My car is on the rolling road for mapping and people say they can only get 187bhp …isn’t that just standard power?
I haven’t got a clue about these things…
The MWR stroker kit engine has been built with gas flowed head, 285 Piper cams, 400 injectors and
ECU Black, together with full 2bular exhaust system etc …
I would welcome any thoughts
187 wheel horsepower, or flywheel? I got 210 on the bench at Track-Group, from a stock bottom end, Fidanza flywheel, ACT HDSS clutch, Cosworth head gasket, ported head, super tech valves, Eibach valve springs, Crower titanium retainers, Piper Stage 2 cams, same injectors as you, radium fuel rail, full 2bular 4-2-1, EMU Black and some time on the dyno…. That would equate to 180-something wheel horsepower at a rough guess? I’d expect your stroker with similar other mods to be more? But maybe less revvy? Mine comes alive at the top end…
Which stroker kit is it? From memory, they do different compression ratio kits?
Its the 12 to 1 compression kit, bought February last year
12:1 compression and the same cams as me, you really should be on for more HP than me… without question, surely?
What does the curve look like? Mine picks up hugely towards the higher revs - it keeps going up and up towards the redline. Perhaps the stroker kit affects the shape of the curve and you aren’t getting the same high rpm gains as me? And did you establish if they were talking about flywheel or wheel horsepower?
Apparently it was 187 at the flywheel? The whole engine was balanced and also had a lightweight flywheel fitted, so the mappers are baffled
as they expected a lot more?
This could have been a big waste of money on my part. …aaaargh!
I had dropped the car off two weeks ago to leave it with them, so I haven’t actually been back there and seen any data, not that I would understand a ‘curve’ anyway I’m afraid … so I’m just being relayed technical information!
There has to be something going on… that just doesn’t sound right… have they checked compression on all cylinders? I think you need someone more qualified to give you an answer, but my feelings are: No, you’ve not wasted all that money, but yes there is something amiss and it just needs finding and sorting out…

For what it’s worth, yours should almost certainly be coming in at a minimum of what mine is achieving - and I’m only saying that because I’m apparently limited by inlet and throttle body, which I’m assuming are the same as yours still…
I’m going over on Tuesday morning as they are going to look at it again… shame, as I’d entered it at Loton Park Hill Climb tomorrow just to try it out!

I’m not sure I 100% believe all these numbers, but you should certainly be over 205bhp at the flywheel if everything is working….
Hmmm… thanks for that link, several different lines of thought there, perhaps the high power output itself is not what the stroker idea is about, so low/mid torque will suit me nicely for hill climbs if that what I get!
Definitely lots of conflicting info on strokers generally - but with the same top end as mine (nearly) I’d expect a similar output even if the stroker just gave you a bit more low-end grunt?
Anybody know of a rolling road / mapping place … with a free diary date …that I can get this Black ECU sorted?
I don’t mind travelling as I have been let down by my normal place as the chap was rushing to get off on holiday!!!
I have the car booked into Loton Park Hill Climb early August, just to compare times to my Elise and have tried specialists RRR Engineering of Kimbolton, but earliest they can do is mid September!
Any suggestions please?
Also, looking ahead, I think my Lotus days are numbered … (I’ve been offered a fast/road Porsche Cayman) … so this car is now for sale and I have two or three people seriously interested in the Elise at the end of the season.
There’s a dealer finder on the ECUMaster website somewhere. All those listed are supposed to be capable of providing technical support and mapping, but I know the odd drop-shipper has snuck in, and not all will have dynos - but it at least gives you somewhere to start.
