noise level dpendand then yes.
anyone been with a s/c honda and got away with it ?
mind you if I have to short shift then its my excuse already in the bag
there’s an inetresting post on seloc if you scroll through all the crap about the times on the leader board.
I’ve been to Bedford a few times Con and on the West circuit there is only one noise meter I think. Its after the hairpin that follows the pit straight. I think as you pass it you’ll be in third at about 8500rpm and you WILL get black flagged. If you short-shift its seems to be fine in my car…and would provide an ideal excuse if you put in a shite time (which I probably would).
I’m actually going to Bedford next Friday (2nd Sept) and will ask what the deal is with noise on the HowFast events. Oh and its the EVO evening event on the SW Circuit if anyone else fancies it…
Bedford evening is on this Friday and I think it will be quiet and the weather looks good and it’s only 125. Do you need any more reasons ? Me and Fluffy are going…
Oh and it’s just an Evo trackday not a tImed event.
No can do matey
Enjoy though !
Shame it’s not timed, got my hands on a R plate 306 that was going to be crushed. Hope to get the parcel shelf and some trim removed before Friday. Also have a Demon Tweeks windscreen sticker to fit.
I think this could be the start of Fluffy Motorsport.

Don’t think Katie’s coming now, something to do with getting her nails done. I don’t understand why she can’t do them while she’s in the passenger seat.

Well we had fun
After a morning at work (where the onsite guys gave the car a wash…result) I headed off to Bedford. Really lucked out with the weather, warm clear and sunny, the nicest day for weeks. The usual eclectic mix of cars when I arrived from a brand new 997 TurboS to the Fluffy Racing 306 shitbox
The experience level on show seemed about as varied as the machinery. It also seemed that there was a lot of inverse pairings, with newbies in rapid cars and old-hands in sheds, not a happy combination imho. With an apparently relaxed attitude to overtaking (no consent required) my first session was proper wild west. I quickly caught up with some guys finding their feet and had no problem whatsoever in giving them some space. Its quite hard however to be patient and safely pick them off one-by-one when you’ve got a racecar stuck to your bumper trying to dive up the inside. I slowed, put the indicator on, let him pass and then picked off the slower cars at my own pace…and then caught him up and sat behind him until he was forced to let me pass obviously
My car had not moved since I got it back from JSR a month or so ago and it was fighting fit (cheers lads). First time I’d been out on R888’s and they seem pretty good. I’m a total numpty but there is ‘some’ discernible difference between them and 48’s. It’s hard to describe but ultimately maybe a little less grip. Nonetheless, at the limit the car still felt progressive and predictable. In fact the car felt totally awesome and I think Michael (Fluffy) and I did a reasonable job of flying the Exige flag. The pax seat was full all evening with lots of interest in the car as usual.
The other addition I’ve made recently to the car was a video camera. I went against the grain and bought an HDMax Extreme instead of GoPro. Its a great little bit of kit. Mention also to the boys at Dogcamsport who supplied it, great service and impartial advice. I’d not played with it all before yesterday and literally bolted it in when I got to the circuit. The results are pretty impressive for a 300 bit of kit. I’ll put some vids up on Vimeo at some point. The video of Fluffy and his mate Clint in the car is properly funny,…I’m sooo tempted to put up some highlights of it. I might have send it unedited to you Michael Alas the battery died on the final session with Fluffy in the pax seat when we went out for a banzai coupla laps. I’ll leave Michael to comment on his impression of the car.
Mention too of the Fluffy Racing steed. It certainly looked the part of track slag shed. The guys seemed to be going well in it, but as was expected they killed it after about 20mins. It sat forlornly in the pitlane for the rest of the evening in a puddle of coolant. I can see that it will ride again…
Another great evening. Roll on the next event…
Respect Benja … nice write up
Good one Ben … at least someone is using thier cars as intended
What a great evening, thanks to Ben for letting us know it was on. Myself and my mate Clint who some of you may have met at the 2011 Exiges.com Kart Grand Prix arrived in the car park to a very friendly group of people, they were all smiling at us. We have since found out that they were infact laughing. After a day of taking it to bits and two years of putting it back together the Exige was still not ready to go back on track and when Clint said he was scrapping his brothers 5 door 306 xsi I saw an opportunity to build a second race car.
I managed to strip the rear of the car one morning before work but never managed to strip the front half so really it was only a sports tourer rather than an all out race car. I also taped the inticator to turn right permanently to inform other cars we were slow and they could pass on the left.
Clint had never been on track before so he drove the two sighting laps. At this point we had a few problems because to keep up with the cars infront Clint was having to drive flat out. I reminded him that I had our crash helmets on my lap and it might be best to take it a little easy.
We then waited in the pits for the green light and out we went with Clint driving. We were hoping to see Ben but I don’t think he could catch us. Clint did a couple of laps and commented on finding it really hard to reamember what was coming up. On the third lap aproching the right before the straight passed the pits Clint moved to the right well off line. I totally shit myself realising that he was lost and about to go straight on. Luckily he also realised this after I screamed and some how he made the corner and onto the pit straight. He did a couple more laps getting smoother then we pitted to check the tyre pressures and swap over.
I then did about 5 laps and loved the 306. 120mph in 4th at the end of the straigh and the handling was so much fun. We came in to swap over and have quick look over the car. This is where we realised it was a sprint car. In 10 laps we had worn the front and rear discs and pads metal to metal and about 2mm off the tyres. Just to finish us off while we were talking to Ben and the radiator burst pooring rusty coolant all over Palmers nice clean pit lane.
I was then totally shocked when Ben said that I could have some laps in his Exige. Wow what a car, it just wants you to drive it hard. It doesn’t feel fast until you catch other cars and it’s like their not moving. I can only think that this is because it’s so well set up. I must admit I struggled with the gearbox. Just down to seat time I think but because the Honda pulls so well, sixth gear feels like your in forth and I messed up a few times. It just pulls so hard. I only did about 3 laps because I was very ragged and off line loads but I really felt like I was learning about the car. Thanks Ben for the drive I could have stayed out all day, it was great. Next Ben took me out and showed me how it was really done, don’t let him tell you he can’t drive.
A great eveng with great friends.
P.S a new rad and brakes are on order, the 306 will be appearing at Bedford very soon. Watch your mirrors!
Ayrton Fluffy had a great day !
