It certainly looks cooler than standard, but I’ve got a couple of issues:
It bottoms out and scrapes under braking. The car probably does need to run a bit stiffer, but I don’t think enough to stop this happening.
I’ve been told that it’s counter productive as it messes up the airflow under the car and stops the rear diffuser working properly. Although I have also seen contrary advice which says that any kind of front air dam is a good thing. But I don’t have any firm evidence one way or the other.
So, just wondering who out there has run a similar front spoiler, and what their experience is in terms of ground clearance and performance benefits/disadvantages.
When i ran my elise m/sport in lot i trimmed the spoiler along the top edge (to the bottom of the bolt holes) with a small grinder.
I took about 10-12 mm off, it made it much better for ground clearance and still fitted perfectly, also allowed it to pass the regs as there is a minimum ground clearance.
Apologies for a bit of thread drift but how’s it going Chris? Are you racing this year? How many Loti do you own at the moment as I saw your ex-car, now Anthony’s car was up for sale…
Not too bad mate, was going to race at oulton this weekend but had too much going on in my life recently to get ready in time.
I dont currently have any s1 exiges only a couple of s1 elises and an s2 !! lol.
I put the red and white car up for sale on behalf of Antony but might be having a deal with him and getting it back off him.
I will be at oulton watching so hopefully see you there ?
Yeah I don’t think a standard size Motorsport splitter could be made to pass LOT regs. I had one on mine and even with the front clam jacked up it was too low. I did what Chris did and trimmed the top edge to meet the minimum height regs.

I thought that the minimum height in the regs only applied to the area between all four wheels… hence the spoiler could be as low as you want.
Pretty sure that’s how it was written… [/quote]
Latest news…Forget the F1 rear diffuser…DaveP trumps Brawn with ET front splitter regs intepretation!!!
5.8.5.1 See diagram 6.4 in appendices showing illustration of where ride height should be observed on the vehicle.
5.8.5.2 Ride height - no part of the car between all 4 wheel centres (excluding mud flaps) may be below 85mm.
LoTRDC Lotus on Track Elise Trophy Series Regulations 2009
5.8.5.3 Ground clearance - no part of the car (excluding mud flaps) should be below 65mm.

No I won’t be Oulton unfortunately, I’ve got too much on and Oulton is a real distance for me. I should be there for the Dony round though next month on one of the days.
OK so in summary, trim the top edge off to move the whole thing upward. Can’t remember off the top of my head how the mounting works and don’t have the car to hand right now to take a look, but will take it off and have a play.
The car will be out again at the ET race at Donington, so will get it sorted by then. See you out there Sean.
So, to the other part of the question, does anyone have any actual data to show that there is any kind of performance advantage (potentially disadvantage) running it?
