hi
ive noticed some of you guys have got motorsport engine covers and im just about to fit mine and was wondering if you could tell me the best method of fixing it. also can you still use the original hinge , or is it better to remove it ?
Mine (now sold to SteveJ) used a pair of the Clips that George suggests. These were fitted at the outer, front edge of the cover. The original hinge, and the original locking mechanism were retained to maintain some practicality. If your car is for pure track use and you don’t want to use the boot at all, you might consider losing the hinge and lock to save weight.
You’ll just need to add some spacers to allow for the thinner panel.
My hinge and locking hoop thingy were bolted straight through the cover with exposed bolt heads on the outside.
I should add that if you want to use the boot, you find it gets very wet as the rear vents in the cover are right above the boot area. I made some fibreglass ducts which direct the water into the engine bay. This means the boot stays pretty dry.
One day i’ll get round to posting some pics, but in short got Plans motorsport to fit & paint mine.
They they resused the bottom D pin off the perspex cover and the roof hinge. They also fitted a clip (s2 bonnet quick release) to each side to stop the cover flexing too much. I went with this option as I wanted to keep the security release option in case I did ever stow anything in the rear.
