does anyone use one of these on an otherwise standard s1 exige? If so do you find it helps to reduce the temps in the engine bay at all? Im thinking of adding one of these after winter when i get my stone chips fixed
I fitted one on my old one (now SteveJ’s) and it made a huge difference to the temperature in the cabin. It was really noticable that the rear window (the glass one right behind your head) used to get almost too hot to touch, but it was just a little bit warm with the motorsport cover.
I guess this means the engine bay must be much cooler.
downsides are that your ‘boot’ will fill with water unless you fit some kind of ducts as I did, and obviously rearward visibility is seriously compromised.
thanks Brendan
gotta say i dont think rearview visibility is good at the best of times but hey, its not as if i spend much time driving backwards anyway
Im looking to get one too…see you didnt manage to sell your Exige…you planning on keeoing it now?
its not that i couldnt sell it…i just had a change of heart. You end up having a love hate relationship with these cars

Did you get one in the end Julian, or are you still agonising over wheels and tyres?

Check out the ‘tyres’ thread…im totally confused now!
And im still checking to see if its neccessary to upgrade the toelinks for AO48s…money, money, money!!!
Always a good idea, but not really just for 48s.
If you’re uping power or suspension certainly consider it.

On the toe link subject, I think you just need to consider what happens if one does break!!! The cost of the repair will make the cost of upgradeing them look like a mere drop in the ocean. But I do believe t depends on how hard you are going to push your car.

when one lets go you get an instantaneous 20 plus degrees of toe in/toe out. Mine let go in a relatively high speed corner and was a clean shear across the shank of the stud. Also anywhere other than Elvington I would have collected some armco or tyre wall.
Although not diagnosed at the time, I think the incident caused the later failure of the inner driveshaft bearing, crack in the engine mounting, and split in the flexi joint on the exhaust…it did all add up s
