So my new hoses arrived from Eliseparts this morning. We’re fitting them on (the other rear braided hose was also suspect so good job we changed them all) and the hoses to the front two calipers were completely siezed. Heated up hoses & tried to get them off but have ended up breaking one of the caliper hose connectors and stripping a couple of threads from the other one!!! Arrghhhhhh…
Now need to get the front calipers replaced. Of course no one workng at Lotus to help out so I’ve been on to the Eliseparts website to try & sort out whether I should go got replacement fronts (std) or go for 4 pots.
They have AP two pot replacements but they possibly need a bigger disc - has anyone used these & what do you think?
If I go for 4 pots is the performance difference that great and are they easy enough to fit???
Any other ideas from you more experienced guys???
Need to sort out which way to go this week end to get ready for Anglesey!
Probably no use now, but for future reference when you have something stuck, the idea is to heat up the female part (ie the calliper) as this expands it loosens off the stud. A heat gun should be sufficient. Heating up the hose as you did would just make it bind up even more.
Slight thread drift now… but what can I do to the front caliper to stop the LH brake dragging and locking up before the right?
Am thinking the piston may be a bit siezed… but could it also be something else? Only happens with very hard braking and need to get this sorted… again before Anglesea!
Latest thinking is unless you are a “driving god” dont bother with bigger/upgraded discs / calipers just use the correct pads (Perfomance Friction. etc.)
These hard pads wear the discs at a tremendous rate so it’s best to treat discs as disposable and just use OEM ones.
This from someone who fitted 295 AP Aly belled discs which are on the way out after one season of trackdays… was good fun destroying them though.
