Always fancied one … Has anyone fitted one? Are there other makes? Any downfalls?
Hey Sean, I have the factory fitted removable type, essentially the same. Being honest I don’t ever actually remove it, but it’s a much nicer wheel to hold physically in my view than the standard Lotus item, and in a car with limited options a nice “extra”.
If you post here or on seloc in the wanted section I imagine a OEM one will come up. There’s a change of boss but I think a straightforward fit.
Thanks Mr Gone … am on the case. How do you find out people’s real names on here?? Cheers Sean
well mine is James, I’m based near the Cotswolds in Oxfordshire. If you want any pictures etc of the factory removable wheel let me know.
The Lotus original one wasn’t Exige specific it was a fit on Elises to, I had one on my Sport160 and 111S so should be a few out there. I reckon £100-150 at a guess…
I fancy one on mine too. Going for the Sparco 300 again I reckon. I never quite got on with the OE.
Hi Steve and welcome - you have bought a belting Exige there
I have a 300mm OD Momo on a quick release boss on my S1 - I love the feel and the added vehicle security it gives.
Btw a Lotus Esprit (can’t remember which model?) horn push is an exact fit for the Momo centre.
Still have the original steering wheel somewhere…
btw I’m Simon
I used to have a 300mm Sparco on Shrek Sean.
The lotus horn push from the standard wheel will fit the Sparco. Will have a look for a pic of it.
I think the original removable wheels for the Exige were red Momo. I have one which is pretty near perfect (just the wheel, no snap on boss). I switched it to a black wheel which I prefer. I also have an OMP Quardra in alcantara which was in my S1 Exige .I removed that as I did not like the shape and the yellow line, I never really get the wheel through a full 360 on track.
I have been meaning to post both of them for sale for some time. Let me know if you are interested.
The important bit is the removable boss.
The original snap off one is not available and older ones will be a bit worn most likely now on the dowel hole.
Having tried a few I think the best boss is the B&G one that LM use now …
Yeah B+G quick release is the way to go.
Dave at Seriously Lotus sells them, and he also sells the boss needed to mount it to the end of the steering column.
Thanks Gav
Not cheap, but doing things properly rarely is!!!
