I have now got the engine out so while Dave checks it over what mods should I look at doing.
Remote thermostat is on the cards but what else can I do? The resonator valve has been removed can the charcoal filter and pipework be taken off without effecting anything.
I was thinking off wrapping the manifold and link pipe to silencer as well.
I hope you get some response to this question as I am in the same situation, in that the car is as standard with all original ancillaries still in place.
I ‘de-piped’ a lot of my Exige last winter. Basically got rid of all the pipes I could, charcoal filter, fuel roll over filter, all sorts of pipes! Only left in the 2 vaccuum pipe runs to the plastic spheres above each rear wheel… I think they provide vaccuum for the heater selectors, wipers etc.
Download a Lotus workshop manual from the net and enjoy the read… at least it will give you a fair idea what all the ‘useless’ bits are!!! (before yopu do this, make sure you have a friendly MOT station nearby!!!)
I would look carefully at the oil cooler pipes and connections. The rubber pipes can harden and crack, and the fittings can weep …
its a real PITA to change but disturbing them may show up some hidden problem.
Look at the rear engine mounting for any signs of cracks etc
I would also inspect the flexi section of the exhuast manifold as well …
Make sure your shifter cables and brackets are all in good order …
Just been cleaning and painting brackets etc over Christmas. Oil lines are OK I am going to attack the frame that bolts to the back of the chassis, what is the the best way to do this.
I also need to get a catch tank for the breather pipes from the engine who does the best deals on these.
