Dilemma time. Logic dictates that I should stick a full set of R888’s on as the car is more likely to see wet muddy country lanes than a dry track this year. But, the front 48’s are only a fraction worn while the rears are either close or on the limit.
Is it silly to put new R888’s on the rear and keep the 48’s on the front until they’re ready for replacement?
Damn - I wish this thread had been up 6 weeks ago when I replaced my rear 48’s!
I think I am going to change to Toyo’s when the fronts are shot, regardless of the rears, as I need to eliminate tyre noise from my humming problem - and save over 100!

My car has a humming problem I was told was tyres, you hear it around 65mph the worst. Changed the rears to 888s and its still there, I can hear it even if I dip the clutch.
Boothy, me too - it stays exactly the same if you coast in neutral as well?
Mine starts at 30, gets worse at 38 before fading away (almost) and is very high pitched at 50 or so, by which time you can’t hear anything above the supercharger and wind noise anyway!
I will have to get Paul Matty to check it out in August when it goes for it’s annual service - shame the warranty finishes then though, hope it isn’t serious?
Hmmm, it probably wont wobble if you shake it but if you jack it up, turn the wheel and see if it sounds rough and devoid of all its grease, that WILL be the bearing. But at 5K that would be surprising never the less.
