Mileage???

Im still looking for an S2 n/a but the only ones in my budget seem to be quite high mileage (20k+). Im quite interested in one thats got 28000 miles on it…should I run away? Does anyone here drive a high mielage one? if so, what are the common problems, if any???

Cheers

James

My Exige has done 32k and I use it every day. No probs at all.

If its got to 28K without any serious probs then I reckon its got to be a guddun! Buy it!

If the Toyota engine and box are smooth and quiet then the rest is easy to tart up.

its on for 21995… is this quite alot for this mileage? Already going to get it, just think I need some leverage to get that price down.

My s2 was on about 25 when I sold it and was fine.

22K for a 28k mile car is pricey. There is an 07 car on Pistonheads at 23495!!

If anyone has a spare 2k that they want to give me then I would snap it up immediately! As the Spring then Summer approach, how do the trends in price vary? Am I really better off trying to get a good winter deal for a smaller budget or waiting till the Summer when I have an extra 3G to play with?

If its going to be that tight a purchase that 2k isnt about, what will you do if something goes wrong? Nail in a 048 and a non-warranty problem and it soon adds up. Its not even 10% of the car value extra for a much newer car, with the LED lights / DBW throttle and other MY “improvements”.

Also, the 2k now extra to buy the 07 car will even out come sale-time, as you would definately have a harder time reselling a 30k+mile 3 year older car than the 07 car.

Mine has 38,000 (2004 plate) on it and is used everyday. Hasn’t missed a beat and has been to Nurburg, Barcelona, Bordeaux and a few track days. I put petrol in it, check the oil every few weeks and service it twice a year.

I would check the condition of the alloys, if it’s been well maintained and looked after then you probably won’t find any kerbings. Also check underneath the front splitter and inspect the clam to look for damage. Only other thing is an ECU printout which shows the engines history - this will give you a good idea of how its been driven. I can see you replacing brake pads/discs and probably the clutch on a high mileage car.

True, however, I know this car is going to the stealer (its private sale at the mo) at the end of the week and I need a trade in on my Quattro Sport… on which the depreciation has completley f00ked me. Anyway, im off for some kip. I’ll try sort something out tommorow.

That one is up for sale at Dream Machines and is their ‘hire car’… I know because we hired it for the day to decide between an S2 & a 111r.
The car is pretty ropey actually and I would either expect that car either to be much cheaper (mileage and condition) or be in 1st class condition.
There were plenty of private S2’s up for grabs pre xmas, but they all seemed to have dried up now

Demand and premiums are rising.

update: the Dream Machines S2 has now done 29.5k, an increase of over 1k since we hired it in November

SWEET !

Yes it is the dream machine car, when you drove it, did you notice anything wrong with gear box? dodgy noises? Whats the condition like? I dont want top ay more than 20K for a car like that, I would imagine that its been pretty abused, especially when people only have it for the day and want to get the best out of it!

Just realised that im whining like a bitch!

47,000 miles on my 04 S2 now. (quite a few of those on track or sprinting at Curborough)

Been no real problems (needed a new heat sheild for u-bend on the exhaust by rear pasenger wheel)

starting to calm down about the mileage now. I got really wound up by some stealers who believed that it would be a big mistake to buy a cheaper high mileage Exige… but then they would say that!

You’d be mad to consider buying a hire car for that sort of money. Does anybody drive a hire car with any sympathy? I don’t think I ever have.

My car will be on the market very soon for about the 21k mark as I’ve got a new weekend car so keep your eyes peeled on the for sale section.
