MIL Issues

I have posted this over on SELOC but unfortunately there seems to be no useful answers so I thought I would try the knowledgeable masses on here…

I have been having a fair few MIL lights come on recently, each time it is either one of the following:

P0507 Idle Air Control System RPM Higher Than Expected
P0171 System Too Lean

These used to be intermittent, but have gradually become worse until now it is on all the time, if I remove the error codes and start the engine up, it comes straight back on. The first thing I did was to take the induction kit off (Pipercross VIS kit) and clean the filter and check the breathers were ok - there seemed to be no issues there. I have looked on the SELOC Tech Wiki and it states the following for ‘Lean’:

Clogged fuel system/fuel filter/knackered fuel pump/partially blocked injectors.
Dodgy Lambda sensor
Inlet manifold leak
IACV leak/issue

I am wondering if it is a fuel filter issue, then thought I might get some injector cleaner and see if that sorts it out as it could have been from dirty fuel? I have then thought that maybe the breather pipes have perished/become porous over time and caused excess air to enter the system?

I am a bit lost as to what could be causing this so any advice would be welcome!

Jonny

Removing the induction kit might well sort it, if the kit changes ANY element of where the MAF is in the inlet tube or the tube diameter it will read the amount of air incorrectly, this can make the car run lean and throw codes, also in can be caused by a knackered MAF so see if you can borrow one? How are your long and short term fuel trims?

No idea, what are these?

The long and short term fuel trims are what the ECU uses to regulate the mixture, short term is instant and the longterm is over the the lifetime since the last ECU reset, the % figures should be very low on both when the engine is warmed up at idle.
You can get at thee from the OBD port.

I will see what this says with the OBD reader. I have cut the end off one of the breathers which looked like it was perishing, reconnected the hose and cleared the fault code. Hasn’t come on on the way to work today (a massive 12 miles) so its looking promising so far. Might have to start replacing the rubber fellas with some nice Silicon hoses.

Whats a CEL?

MIL is the same as CEL

Check for any exhaust leaks before the O2 sensor…

Yes it is although I’d meant to say CEL eliminator, the big metal jobby you stick in the decat to remove the O2 sensor away for any gases. I was told that many times by Lotus and various peeps to remove the air box etc as that was the cause, but those two fault codes Jonny all the time…coming and going, coming and going. I suppose it doesn’t get to the underlying problem , Ive always thought maybe a custom map might be the only answer

CEL Eliminator

Edit to say what Frank says which I’ve done also. Just to clarify ITG Maxogen, 2Bublar Manifold, decat and GT3 8" and Hanger111 GT reflash
