Anyone been keeping up with the Mark Hales court case?
I was lucky enough to hear David Piper and Richard Attwood recounting their motor racing experiences at a lunch recently with Mr P and Chevron. What has happened subsequently before m’learned friends has taken a bit of a shine off Pipes’ contribution.
Follow this link to catch-up on poor Hales’ plight and to counter-balance the comments of the judge . .
There’s more to this than Mark’s misfortune. If mechanical failure is not insurable in a loan car then expect to see some depleted fields at Goodwood and the like. Piper’s attitude and the resultant judgement is potentially a very sad day for historic motor sport. Not to mention decent road test articles in the motoring press.
Extrapolate the finding to your hire car in which you lunch the gearbox…
I’ve been following this sorry story - the only winners are the bloody lawyers, with everyone else involved being big losers (albeit in different ways)!
Whatever the technical/legal rights are, there appears to be an odd moral justification in the action being brought to court.
As I’m at work (!) and felt obliged to do some, I’ve only just read the judgment in full. It’s bloody hard going. No wonder legal bills are stratospheric.
