Foolishly I said I would help a friend of a friend replace the alternator on his M100 Elan.
How hard can it be we said.
Well…Looks to me like the offside half shaft needs to be removed to gain access from below
or all the induction needs to come off to access from above.
Wish I’d kept my mouth shut…any one know anything that may help.

Definitely done them from below. But so long ago I can’t remember if you need to take out driveshaft. Remember them being a bit of a pain in the bum though. Sorry!!
try paying someone to do it
John is right about the driveshaft having to come out no other way.

Yeah… thanks guys…what a heap of sh1t…dismantle half the car just to change the alternator or oil filter…lol
Alternator yes. Oil filter not so much, although may have the proper tool to do that.
Annoying when the oil runs down your arm all the way to your armpit though!!
FYI…took the sub frame off…much easier than cracking the ball joints and removing the drive shaft.
Just waiting for the new alternator to turn up…then hopefully…jobs a carrot.
Gonna keep my mouth well and truly shut in future.
