Hi all,
I can get quite a good price on A048,s from France. The ‘LTS’ version is cheaper than the standard medium compound.
does anyone know if there is any difference between these?
Thanks

As far as I can recall, the LTS version is a softer compound that takes into account the general ‘lightness’ of the Exige package but which might not be suitable in more general applications. LTS will work well on any car but will get hot and wear out quickly. Equally, non LTS will work well on the Exige but will need different pressures etc to get the best out of them on track.
That said, I think the M compund front yokos are softer than LTS fronts… (many believe Lotus chose harder LTS fronts to introduce some understeer into the road cars)
I thought the Medium compound was softer and used to be the control tyre in LOT
I think the world has moved on though. The Avon ZZR is now the control tyre in LOT, does not suffer the balancing issues with AO48, has similar grip levels (better I think), lasts longer and is cheaper. What’s not to like?
My exige has Toyo T1R’s on it courtesy of the previous owner, they look awful and the car slides all over the place. Do we think ZZR’s will perform better than these for road use or are they so temperature dependant that they are just for track use?
Thanks
I’d say for dry road use the ZZR is an excellent tyre. In damp conditions I find them quite progressive and pretty good considering their dry performance. In standing water they are shit (ask DaveP). In the snow they are absolutely hopeless
The car has a really nice positive feel on the ZZR as I think they have a stiffer sidewall compared to AO48/888’s.
OK so I’m sold, where to get the best price???
You wont find a ‘best’ price
Avon only…Price is the price take it or leave it the last time I looked (wont even give discount to trade for 20 sets, hence why I dint stock them)
