Yes I know the title is a bit Sun like, but its true…
I bought a Cup255 air box and filter for my S and it was 60 delivered, which I think is exceptional value for money, Russel said it was a simple swop, so it’s still looking good 60 spent and a simple fit
Now the story turns a bit sour, the simple fit was not quite the case.
1 Jack up and remove rear wheel (easy)
2 Remove rear arch liner (easy)
3 Remove old air box (medium) only slight cursing as there is no room…
4 Un bolt old lower air box (easy)
5 Fit new lower section (Hard) from this point it was not so good, realised the air box looked like it had the same fitting points but it doesn’t (curse a bit) it’s ok I will remove the bracket and work out where the new holes need to be, bloody Lotus rivet it on from the inside… Spend the next hour test fitting measuring and so on. Worked out the single hole at the front is in the correct place (good news) just got to mark the new rear holes, a bit more measuring (read guess work) 2 new holes drilled and it fits. bolt back together.
6 Re fit as removed blocking off the now unwanted air valve in the old air box.
7 Lower car
Simple job? Well not quite, on hte plus side it does sound great not sure there is any performance gain but what the hell
Took 3 hours to do and it was quite frustrating but I think it was worth it if you want extra induction and super charger whine with no risk to your air fuel ratio.
Interesting Ade…
I was going to fit mine but not sure if I can be arsed. I might just add this to the list for Westover to do
The airbox is strangely cheap though.
I think it is a good upgrade so get it done, at least now you know you need a drill with a cone shaped drill bit. It is in the end quite easy to measure and drill I just took my time and worried about it too much. I just measured from the edge of the single whole out to where the holes were on the old box and drilled them in line with the original holes and it fitted fine. I wish I had taken a picture before I put it back on.
Hi Adrian, Im in the process of going down the same route as yourself with the proalloy on order(should arrive this week) and also the gotham. Does it actually sound different with this mod, like an induction roar? Thing Is I dont like the sound of the engine just now but dont know how much thats gonna change with the other mods? Does the charger make a lot more noise with the gotham/cooler? Cheers Craig.
Looking at how the Lotus Sport TRD box fits together, I take it that the filter element is fairly exposed ??? or is it still completely sealed in the box ??
Everythnig I have done so far makes the car sound better, the airbox has made the most difference though, more induction roar and the SC whine is louder to. On partial or lite throttle it is no different but WOT is great. It is now such an intoxicating noise I use full throttle everywhere I can, this has meant my fuel bill has gone up
I’m looking at the Gotham ECU and injectors.
Do you have to send your ECU to them? What’s your plan??

My ECU had to go to the USA to be done (it was the first) not sure if this is the case now, give Wayne a call and ask him. The injectors are simple to install you just have to watch the injector cushions at the bottom, they are easy to drop and catch when instaling them.
If they have an ecu in stock you just have to send them your ecu and they will send you the one they have. Thats what Im doing but dont know how many they keep,I think it might only be one so you would have too wait till they have flashed my one. Either way I recken it will be worth it.
