Lotus Track Car - Now out !

Less is more

I think they call it trying to make a profit.

Less is more

…as in less in my bank account and more in her wardrobe…

correct me if i’m wrong, surely a 340 with a s/c honda would probably pip it for weight and performance? looks obviously subjective…

Statistically you may be correct - but asthetics is what it’s all about for me. Although i like the 340R ( and I genuinely do) to me it is a contemporary twist on a caterham/kit car look; where as the track car looks like it’s name suggests and has that appeal of a real race car.

Oh yes !! And a warranty - for what it’s worth !!!

let me guess… voided if you go on track!!

Had a go in a 300bhp Aerial Atom last week. 600bhp/ton and 10k less, seems like an interesting proposition.

Ian

Having never driven an Atom (but always wanted to ) I have heard from some drivers that the combination of the low weight high power and average chassis produces a tail happy car. Is this true, or a load of old Tosh !!!

Had a session in an Atom at Rockingham last year - not a high power version - it was very disappointing and the seating position in the single moulded front seats was very poor.

Don’t know what the atom is like now but the early ones was abysmal. I doubt it’s a weight issue, though, as I’m sure with decent damping and geo set up it would work well.

The problem is that the weight is all over the rear, so it’s a good idea to brake early to make sure you don’t lock the fronts coming down from a silly speed.

If you think about it more as a 4 wheeled bike rather than a car you’re a bit closer.

As a track tool it was a lot of fun (in the wet) but probably not the fastest lapping things out there. The handling seemed more sorted than I’d heard of old. I was talking to an ex-Lotus guy who now worked for them (even if he was just in the parts dept ).

Ian

why do people spend 40k on a track only hack when you can buy a sweet single seater for 20k which will blow it away ?

Agree!

Another thing going for the Atom then.
