Lotus Sports Exhausts

I am confused… it doesnt take much…
There appears to be 3 different exhausts from Lotus for Exiges:
LOTAC05334 Stage 1
LOTAC05335 Stage 2
LOTAC05450 S/C only
I do want to change my exhaust eventually, but see no reason other than to make it sound better, until it has developed the inevitable rust hole. Then I will change it for one of the above, but which one ?
I dont want to go above 98db so that rules out the Stage 2, What about the 05450. It says it is for S/C cars only, but why should it be ?
I have now managed to acquire an 05450, is it any good ?

I have had a stage 2 on a 111R, a stage 1 on an Exige S and have currently got the S/C version on my Exige S. Apparently Lotus recommends that you only fit the S/C version to the supercharged cars but I had a stage 1 on for 12 months with no noticeable side effects.

As for sound/noise level the stage 1 on the Exige S was the quitest, the stage 2 on the 111R next and the S/C on the Exige S the loudest. Am fairly certain that both the stage 2 and S/C version are both well over 98db’s but I could be wrong. They were all fitted without any mods to the air cleaner side.

Personally I wasn’t that impressed with the sound of the stage 1, but did like the stage 2 on the 111r and thats why I eventually went for the S/C version.

The S/C Version exhaust (Which i think Lotus now call the Stage 3)is definitly louder than 98db.

I had mine static tested at Croft it was 98.7db @ 4000rpm.
Dont know what its like at max chat but its a hell of a lot louder. Obviously thats based on a supercharged exige so it may be a bit louder than a N/A dont know?

I drove a N/A exige with a stage 1 and couldnt really hear much of a difference from standard…

Edit to add…not sure where in Yorkshire you are but if you wanted to hear mine more than happy to meet half way somewhere…Ian

Yep the S/C exhaust stage three is loud, not as loud as the stage two but will take you of 100 for sure. It pops and bangs which is great however not track friendly. Go for a larini if yiou wasnt something track friendly with a nice burble

Are these db ratings you’ve mentioned with or without cat fitted ?
If so, then I may have a S/C exhaust to sell

Mines with the Cat fitted and ill guess Alaxuk’s is too.

The stage 3 pops and bangs a lot, its loud! mines caused a kid to crash his bike into the wall in a tunnel, poor lad fell off. And yeah I did stop to see if he was ok…

Why don’t you try 2bular or Larini rather than the A-B-C Lotus alternatives. Jim at 2bular will tailor something for you. I only speak from experience but I’m very happy with mine, it doesn’t pop or bang but sounds great…I use Donny(98db’s) all the time! I’d really try an alternative, you can always put your original back on or supply it if you sell! All shapes available as well as standard. I have a tubular on my S2 and it is louder than my S1. The silenser looks the same size as yours Jonny, maybe the packing has all blown out of mine. Last time I was at Donno, i managed 2 laps in my S2 before being done at 103db

I managed to get hold of a standard ‘S’ back box that I am going to put on to quieten things down a bit.

That expains why you were so fookin loud at Teeside…& I don’t mean in the bar either

Your car looked to be going well tho’

lol, yeah a few people said I was loud there. Its pretty boomy on the motorway as well.

Check to make sure the welds on the hanging bracket havent broken through(mine did). they are welded directly to the can itself and if tehy break they pop a hole in the side as they go…

had both a tubular and larini on my s2 exige… just ordered a new larini for the 2-11…

the difference in build quality imho is chalk and cheese.

All shapes available as well as standard.

All shapes and sizes alright

Oh dear I guess you take as you find I had a mare with my Q/S system but my 2ublar is really great. Sean, Jim would repack that mate, ask him? I have heard good things about Larani splashed all over the net and even Jim @ 2ublar has posted about there quality but I found he was very very helpful and extremely passionate about what he does. My exhaust has done quite a few track days now since fitted and no problem, still looks like new, very new actually!

Surely these alternatives are better than Lotus’s?
